Trump, Finally Explained (Trump, A Dunce Like Reagan)
New York Times ^ | 12/03/2016 | Gail Collins

Posted on 12/03/2016 1:21:32 AM PST by goldstategop

Some of you may find it disturbing that one of Trump’s chief apologists was basically saying that he talks policy like a drunk at happy hour. Some of you may hear Trump constantly contradicting today what he said yesterday and decide he’s an idiot.

From now on I’m going to try to think of him as a little bit like my dog, Frieda. Frieda is extremely intelligent, but her memory is only good for about 90 seconds.

When you listen to Trump’s Inaugural Address, or his first State of the Union, keep reminding yourself that he’s reserving the right to forget everything he’s said as soon as he says it. No way we can believe him long term. Unless he tattoos it on his arm.

Guys you have to remember in their little insulated world if you don’t agree with them this automatically makes you stupid.

To them conservative equals stupid.

I should go back and look at what the Old Gray Liar had to say about BHO after the 2008 election, for comparison. But a) I've got better, far less aggravating things to do, and b) I just ate breakfast and would like it to stay where it is.

Get ready for this kind of "journalism" and opinion about Trump non-stop for the next 8 years.

Hey, Gail, if you don't like the guy, just say so. Your candidate lost and now your only solace is to deride the new president?

Get a real job. What you just wrote in the NY Slimes wouldn't get you a paycheck anywhere in the America that the rest of us live in.

“liberals can’t make up their minds about whether Trump is dangerous or whether Trump is a joke”

They are about to find out Trump is no joke, ... big-time.

Just as they underestimated President Reagan, they are sorely underestimating President Trump. Good. He can probably get more done this way. Every time he pulls out a “win” they will be taken by surprise.

I agree. Let's hope they continue to misread him. Let's hope they stay in their bubble. Let's hope they continue to drip arrogant sarcasm and elitist condescension.

“When you read Trump stories on the NYT front page, or their many future anti-Trump editorials, keep reminding yourself that they’re reserving the right to forget everything they have said as soon as they are proven wrong. Their ethics died 40 years ago and are completely forgotten by almost everyone. No way we can believe the Times long term. All the news that’s fit – they no longer print.”

Your whole comment is very well stated. Enjoyed reading it.

I know. We can’t ignore them either. They’re like termites in the walls.

I wonder if at least some of them may realize he’s outclassed them, and they only say this assinine stuff in a silly hope that it might come true, or that a few fools somewhere might believe them?
I guess the LIVs DO believe them.

Yeah it’s like the party line in the novel 1984. We have always been at war with Trump. If you go back a few years however they weren’t.

The jury is still out. Trump may very well be more effective. I was in USAF during Reagan’s first term and admired him very much.

But the country is a very different place with Trump’s arrival and the challenges a quite bit different than Reagan’s time.

The NYT, still the preferred newspaper for parrots and dead fish. OK, I gotta admit, that it also works well for spray painting projects.

This morning I watched a youtube vid of Kellyanne Conway talking with Chris Cuomo, who doesn’t care for Trump’s tendency to frivolous tweeting.
Now, I don’t tweet, but if I had 25,000,000 followers I just might.
And as for the lack of seriousness, unbefitting his high office...I seem to recall Obama making a national spectacle of his basketball tournament picks, and his choice of a pet, and nobody said enough’s enough about those frivolities.

Bingo !!!!

This should be memorized and repeated to every lib we encounter. This is their view, their faith, religion, and “salvation”. Nothing else matters! Because if they accept even one “truth” that is different from the “faith” then all of what they believe in is subject to review. And THAT cannot be allowed to happen. It would result in their equivalent of being “relegated to hell.”

Doesn’t matter. Trump won. Liberals are going to bleat and cry racism for the next 16 years. Might as well get used to ignoring them.

Your comment that there is a need for an article called... New York Times explained... Is a very good idea. This article just expands Hillary’s comment that trumps supporters are deplorable and adds that Donald Trump himself is deplorable. The analogy that Donald Trump should be thought of as a dog who can’t remember anything is typical of the misunderstanding by the left of Trump. Actually, Often Trump starts with an issue where he has little background, says something and then learns more about the issue and gives a more reflected opinion. He is the only candidate of the 20 or so total candidates for president who actually acknowledged that he changed his mind!

Imagine if someone were to say that Obama was like a sneaky dog that stole everybody’s food. After all, didn’t Obama take vacations that cost us millions and millions of dollars and didn’t he say that we could all keep our health plans when he knew that we couldn’t? Isn’t that kind of sneaky?
wouldn’t comparing Obama to a dog be considered highly racist?

There is quite a double standard here.

I suggest the reporters do what they were originally paid to do: take a deep breath, sit back, report the news, and wait three months, watch to see what happens with Trump as our president; if, at the end of that time, you think he’s been stepping in it all that time, let him have it, both barrels. Think you can do that?

If you get angry, they win.
Just sit back and enjoy the show.
Trump is going to do awesome stuff and the left is going to become more pitiful and irrelevant.

I’m enjoying another weekend of NOT listening to the national news or reading a mainstream newspaper. I don’t miss headline news that promotes the idea that Trump is dangerous, out of control and a potential nightmare. They’re giving Trump no quarter. Eff em. My main concern in life is NOT the stories they push about ex-quarterbacks dying in road rage incidents.
