PIERRE | A Republican state lawmaker plans to sponsor a bill in the upcoming legislative session that would allow people who can legally carry a concealed handgun in South Dakota to do so without a permit.

Right now, it's a misdemeanor under state law for someone to carry a concealed pistol or to have one concealed in a vehicle without a permit. Rep. Lynne DiSanto said Monday that her bill is about personal protection.

"I just hope this opens the door to people considering being gun owners and having the opportunity to protect themselves and their families as it was intended by the Constitution when it was written," she said.

The Constitution is my carry permit and it’s about time the government acknowledged this fact.

I don’t need a permit to exercise any other right so where do they get off thinking I need a permit to exercise this one?

Kansas is Constitutional Carry. I got my CC though so that I can carry when we travel. And I know, research the rules. For example I can carry in Colorado but in Denver I can only have a mag that holds 10 rounds which they don’t make for my weapon. grrrr.

It is called concealed carry, so the criminals would require x-ray vision.

If you need a license, it isn’t a right. It’s a privilege.

Carrying a gun for self defense is not a privilege. The Constitution GUARANTEES OUR PRE-EXISTING RIGHTS from the government taking them away or restricting them.

It is time to get right on this issue.

We have drivers licenses (for a privilege) recognized in all states. We have MARRIAGE licenses for heteros and homos recognized - a supposed right - recognized in all states.

Yet for gun rights somehow states can ignore permits from other states. All the args for not recognizing 2a rights can be thrown at driving and marriage. Different standards, different training, etc. Plus this is explicitly mentioned in the Constitution.

It has been for decades a showcase of liberal socialist hypocrisy when it comes to consistency of arguments. They have no logical way of defending their position other than they hate guns and hate the Constitution when it comes to gun rights.

Just like every idiot with a blog and an agenda can spew forth lies under the protection of the 1st amendment with out being infringed upon by government regulation requiring it to pass any background checks or criminal history, or be required to attend any instructional training, or pay money to the local constabulary in order to acquire a permit, I feel I should be able to exercise my 2nd amendment rights in the same fashion!

Exactly correct, Secret Agent Man.
When a pistol can be on my hip or in my bag...and I can visit all 50 states without harassment, that's when we are right with the Second Amendment.
I don't wish to have to correlate assorted permissions to allow a roadtrip to several states while vacationing and/or on business travel.

The concealed carry class, with the avoiding confrontation should be taught at home.
Knowing that will not happen, maybe junior high.

Competent concealed carry actually helps everyone.
Criminals have no sense whom are the "non-compliant" victims.
The lawful CCW owner doesn't have to have eyes in the back of his/her head to prevent snatches.
Lastly, the sheep can sip their lattes in a SAFER environment not even realizing they are getting a "free ride" from the armed patron seated next to them in the restaurant.

The gov’t has a definition for all regulatory words, yet doesn’t define the constitutional word “infringement.”

When I heard the guy say "the only permit you need in this county is the Constitution" I was pretty happy. I was even happier when I learned he was the County Sheriff.

Idaho's Constitutional Carry now too. You wouldn't believe the bloodbath that resulted in. You wouldn't believe it because it never happened.

Agreed.

Mine are not even registered. Hard to register something without a serial number. :)

Requiring a law abiding citizens to “BUY A PERMIT” to carry a concealed or open gun is unconstitutional.
