'Sanctuary' Means Career Criminals Can Run and Hide

Donald Trump understood something that many Washington insiders missed. Many Americans and some naturalized citizens bristle at elected officials constantly defending the rights of non-Americans to migrate here illegally -- and to be rewarded for breaking the law with a path to citizenship. Toward that end, and in deference to his campaign promises, Trump seems primed to deport undocumented immigrants and withhold some federal funds from sanctuary cities like San Francisco.

Trump has dispensed with some of his magical thinking. For example, Trump has ditched his one-time (but impossible to fulfill) promise to deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Now he says he would focus on 2 million or more undocumented immigrants with criminal histories. That is, his focus now is on mainstream ideas that the news media can brand as extreme only at the peril of their credibility.

Trump told "60 Minutes" he wants to "get the people that are criminals and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers. We have a lot of these people; probably 2 million, it could even be 3 million. We are getting them out of the country or we are going to incarcerate." It's hard to call that position "extreme" when it lines up with President Obama's direction to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to focus on removing undocumented immigrants with serious criminal records. Under Obama, ICE's Priority Enforcement Program has targeted convicted criminals who threaten public safety or national security.

The big difference, I suspect, will be that Trump means it when he says he will deport "criminal aliens," and Obama didn't really mean it. After all, if Obama truly believed in deporting criminal aliens, he would have challenged sanctuary cities like San Francisco that protected repeat offenders from ICE.

In 2010, Obama's Department of Justice sued Arizona after lawmakers passed a law to allow local law enforcement to check the immigration status of those suspected of breaking state laws. A Department of Justice brief claimed "a state may not establish its own immigration policy or enforce state laws in a manner that interferes with the federal immigration laws."

But the Obama administration failed to challenge a 2013 San Francisco ordinance that protected Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez from being turned over to ICE. Lopez Sanchez had been convicted of seven felonies and deported five times when San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon dropped a decades-old marijuana charge and then-Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi released Lopez Sanchez rather than hand him over to ICE, as ICE requested. Weeks later, authorities charged the Mexican national for the shooting death of city resident Kate Steinle. Lopez Sanchez has pleaded not guilty.

Trump is likely to borrow from past legislation introduced by Sen. David Vitter, R-La., to pull federal funding from sanctuary cities because, Vitter argues, "sanctuary cities will continue to exist until there are tangible penalties in place."

What we don't know is if Trump will try to be as tough on sanctuary cities that simply shield undocumented crime victims from being reported to ICE -- which seems reasonable -- as he should be on San Francisco, with its extreme stance on defending career criminals who are in the country illegally. California's state law also shields repeat offenders from ICE. The TRUST Act policy sends a message that people can live in America illegally and continue to break laws without having to face the consequences.

The problem for the next president: If repeat offenders figure they can evade deportation by fleeing to "social justice" havens, then it will be harder for immigration officials to target the worst threats to public safety.

There is also a principle involved here. "As a lawyer for 60 years and a judge for 10," Superior Court Judge Quentin Kopp recently told me, "I'm a believer in the law. That's why I don't understand accepting, much less rewarding, disregard of the law." That's a pretty basic belief. If the cream of Washington understood that contract, then perhaps Donald Trump would not be president-elect.

The folks who accepted the invitation of the Rats to come here illegally might have considered there was an expiration date on that invitation. Time’s up!

Next year or even earlier, when the illegals come to really believe Trump will deport them, they will go home or and flood these elite sanctuary cities. Those, who go back to Mexico early, will have the best choices of housing and jobs. Those who wait will have no good choices in Mexico. So they will run to the elite sanctuary cities.

Let them flood these elite sanctuary cities.

On Trump’s first day in office stop every federal tax $ from going to these elite sanctuary cities.

Then, Trump’s new AG will enforce E Verification in every state/city in America. Any employer with illegals will face big fines and possible jail sentences.

Then, stand back and watch the elite rats get eaten up the less elite rats in their city and by the hordes of illegals in their cities fighting over a dwindling supply of housing, food and services.

Later, in a few weeks/months, those mayors if still in office or alive, will be meeting with Trump’s people behind closed doors to work out massive deportation of their former voting buddies, the illegals. They will have identified their illegals and be willing to pay for their transportation to Mexico.

I’m reminded of the opening scene from the movie, “Goin’ South,” with Jack Nicholson.

There is no Justice System when you allow a “law” to promote vice and evil.

All “Just Law” has to promote “public virtue” or it is unconstitutional. (Justice John Marshall, Founders, Montesquieu).

We need to get back to Rule of Law——not these irrational, evil rules of sick, perverted man. We either have Rule of Law or not.....not compromise at all should be allowed.

Let the illegals migrate to these Dem Urban zones, aka “Sanctuary Cities”. How long before they all become “no go” zones and are flat broke?

Trump better do more than just withhold funding. He better enforce the law or it will once again be down to We The People.

The movie starts with Nicholson as an old west fugitive from the law racing toward the Mexican border on horseback with officers close behind.

When he crosses the Rio Grande, he dismounts and starts dancing and cheering that he made it, and escaped from the law.

As the officers ride into view toward Jack, Jack’s horse suddenly keels over and dies from a heart attack behind him while he continues to celebrate.

The officers promptly cross the river and take Jack into custody.

It’s a pretty funny movie for 1978.

Nicholson directed it, too.

The idiot liberal mayors running these sanctuary cities (and in some cases supported by democratic governors) are doubling down on dumb. They represent the fringe of the anti-American lunatic left, and all they are doing by allowing riots and declaring themselves sanctuary cities is hurting their own constituents. More and more moderates and even some liberals will be choosing Trump over what the self-destructive democrats represent. If you live a city that has riots causing chaos and destruction, and your city is becoming a magnet for criminal illegal aliens, it’s going to get ugly quickly. Eventually, even these moderates and some liberals will come to the conclusion that they prefer common sense conservatives over death and destruction democrats.

An astute businessman like Trump knows how to use incentives. There are two types of incentives: carrots and sticks. A lot of “sticks” have been mentioned (e-verify, penalize sanctuary cities, etc.); and they’re all worth using. However, some carrots should also be thrown into the mix — as they are in most deals. Here are some for instances:
* pay illegals to self-deport — say up to $5,000/per. That would be a small fraction of the cost of tracking them down, and going through whatever legal processes are required to force deportation;
* offer self-deporters a chance to apply for citizenship. The application would have to be made from outside the USA. Any illegal migrant forcibly deported would be ineligible to apply for citizenship — ever.

Please, don’t tell me how this is “rewarding bad behaviour”. Some if it is (paying to leave); but, you’re more likely to get the results you want with some carrots, than you are with just sticks.

Just some thoughts, to encourage discussion of a wider choice of strategies and tactics.

Collect the 2 million felons. Aiding, abetting, accessory, and conspiracy charges may be considered for associates involved with these felons.

Seems there needs to be a better vetting process BEFORE the wrong folks are put into office. I known they play nice and dont’ show their true faces during election time but a few checks might reveal problem areas BEFORE you put them into office and have to deal with the fallout.

Seems Obama’s and Soro’s aim was to bring the undesirable into this country to create dissension, utter chaos and anarchy and they are being used as accomplices to the anti-Trump folks. All you have to do to see their hands in all this is to look at who they used to transport them all over the place to cities throughout the U.S. to seed it - a government contractor they use for everything else as well as funding all the flop houses, Catholic Charities, Southwest Key Group (La Raza owned), and Baptist Family Services through the Unaccompanied Alien Child Program which if you look at it for what it is is just a way to bring over their families too.

In addition, the illegals are being used to create all kinds of financial and social problems here intentionally.
We can’t afford it anymore and they’re taking advantage of the system. We shouldn’t put up with it and we don’t have to.

The number os illegals in this country is cfar more than 11 million. Do the math-—

In the 60’s & 70’s, the accepted number was 20 million, with most in the border states & Calif at the top of the list numerically.

Add to that their MUCH higher birth rate

Add to that the continuing number of invaders—especially under Obama’s 8 years

Add to that the ‘refugees’ Obama has been bringing in without any proper vetting. (Ask Victorville Calif about the 600 or so that were dumped on them without ANY notification to town leaders)

Deduct the minor number who self-deported

The number of illegals in this country right now is much closer to 55 million, IMO.
