I'm not, but I was there by accident in 2012 two days after Obungo's second inauguration. I decided to go spend my birthday with a sister living in Alexandria.
It was winter, what was I thinking?.
Shoveled snow for the first time in my life, and outdoor was miserable just walking two blocks to the shopping center. Got take a tour of the White House that trip.
As far as accomodations, had I not had relatives there I would have been screwed. The nearest hotel rooms available were 30 miles away in any direction. I know because I needed a winter hat, actually any sort of warm hat or cap and that's how far we had to drive to find a place that had anything warm to wear. Found a fake fur "Russian hat that did the job.
The transportation system was crowded but always available.
Being from California I would never go there between November and March. Winter air travel is stressful in fair weather. On the return trip we weren't sure we would get to the airport; getting to Union Station for the commuter train to BWI airport on account of the amount of snow that the plows couldn't keep up with. Last week of January.
I’m planning on going. My office isn’t far from the Capitol.
