Civil Service reform should be near the top of Trump’s agenda
American Thinker ^ | 11-9-16 | Thomas Lifson

The federal government requires structural reform. Because it is very expensive and time-consuming to fire anyone, bad behavior is not just tolerated but propagated. Civil Service protections originally intended to guard against a politicized bureaucracy have now become guarantors of the high-handedness and lack of accountability we saw with Lois Lerner, now retired with a six-figure pension after pleading the Fifth Amendment.

Government employee unions have become a mainstay of the Democratic Party, with employee dues, harvested from taxpayers via salaries, laundered into the party’s coffers. So the Democrats will fight like hell, up to and including a filibuster, mass demonstrations, and possible violence.  Donald Trump will need to persuade the public, and mobilize public opinion against those Democrat senators who resist the reform movement. There are 23 Democrat senators up for re-election in 2018, and some of them must be made to get very nervous.

Lois Lerner is the ideal object lesson to close the argument. She persecuted ordinary Americans and got away with it.

Donald Trump has pledged not to fire people, but rather rely on attrition with the federal workforce, but that does not mean tolerating misbehavior. Firing for cause is always an option.

So should election reform.

There has to be a better way to protect the integrity of the ballot.

Also, start pushing CA and NY to switch to Maine’s model for the EC.

Across just the IRS....I would take a guess that a minimum of 2,000 individuals have pulled out their info sheets and reviewing options by the end of January.

One thing he can immediately do is require WH approval for any promotions to the Senior Executive Service (SES). These people are the ones entrenched that cause a lot of problems.

No doubt the euphoria of a win and a desire to play nice in the early days will keep them safe for a time but unlike any other president this one has spent his life rooting out inefficiency and eliminating it.

IIRC, Government “labor” unions are only allowed by executive order, not by law. An order easily rescinded.

On the top of Trump’s agenda should be saving our kids from marxist indoctrination at schools and colleges. This is our future they are stealing from us.

Hire the best people and close down the depts. of education, energy, etc etc etc. Privatize the USPS and AMTRAK...phase it in, but this will save gazillions.

Tax reform.

A lot of “reforming” if not dismantling as well.

Lois Lerner, now retired with a six-figure pension after pleading the Fifth Amendment.

This is a BIG PROBLEM. At no time should we ever allow one of our PUBLIC EMPLOYEES to Plead the 5th and remain Silent, they work for us, everything they do is FOR THE PEOPLE. When a Public Employee refuse to TESTIFY on what they did on BEHALF OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, They should be IMMEDIATELY FIRED and ALL PENSIONS VOIDED.

from now til inauguration, political appointees will now become civil servants, making it harder fire them them.
That means moose limbs in government will be harder to get rid of.

No more government workers working from home. It’s become the norm in some agencies for their workers to ‘work’ from home 2-4 days per week. This was an Obama initiative. It’s a joke and you see these people at the park, hiking, at appointments, and even on vacation while they’re supposed to be working. They’re open about it.

It clear there are large number of low productivity governmental workers in non-essential agencies that should be given the boot. America would not notice if half the federal workforce lost their jobs.

Our formerly private sector CIO has gotten rid of two sloths even with the union. It was a thousand times harder due to the union to get rid of these “lifers” who have never had to worry about job security.

Working on 30+ years so called “Senior Programmer” who only knows an ancient database program and who has REFUSED to learn a new language. He is supposed to convert his ancient program to .Net.

Nope. Not only that but he is belligerent against management and refuses to do anything new nor help out or research anything.
