It goes by a state by state basis. The media has agreed not to post results until a particular state’s polls close. They will not wait until 1:00 am Eastern.

Early voting should be stopped. Absentee voting: unless you are going to be out of Town or "actually unable" to get to the polls, this should be prohibited also.

Instead....make all states uniform for a Presidential election....On the first Monday and Tuesday in November after the first Tuesday. Too much cheating going on and everyone knows it.

Thanks for this map. I've bookmarked it.

I have a feeling there will be a thousand vanities asking this in about 6 hours.

The Michigan polls close at 8:00 p.m. but if you are still in line, you get to vote.

Media reporting of poll/election results from some states before other states’ polls are closed has been deemed prejudicial to the states still open for voting. That is why the media is prohibited from reporting any results until ALL states polls are closed. That is my understanding.

No, the media has agreed among themselves to not call a state until that state's poll has closed. There is no law for or against it.

They violated this agreement in 2000, when they called Florida after the polls closed in the Eastern time zone. But, the Florida panhandle is in the Central time zone.

The pandhandle is also heavily conservative. Many people literally got out of line and went home. If they hadn't done that, there probably wouldn't have been any "hanging chads" controversy, because Bush would have decisively won the state.

So I guess early we need to notice how Trump is doing in VA. If he is getting good returns it may offer some hope for other states.

Nope, that comes from my own spreadsheet.
Info originally came from “greenpages” and others.

“... The Michigan polls close at 8:00 p.m. but if you are still in line, you get to vote ...”
-
Michigan is split into 2 time zones and
results will not be released until 9:00 pm eastern time.
I believe that all locations across the nation will stay open
to those who are already in line at the time of poll closing.

Early voting should be stopped

Why? Early voting is always on paper, the safest method, and early voting has nothing to do with the rigged machines and cheating at the election places.

So we should learn how New Hampshire goes early on. Hopefully, that’s a good harbinger for Trump.

The on-going argument for a long time has been if the media reports results from the East before polls close in the West, it prejudices the vote in states still voting in the West. Apparently that argument remains unresolved even though I was under an impression the media agreed not to report results from the East until the polls closed in the West.

I don’t care. I’m watching a movie and going to bed tonight. We’re in God’s hands now and I’ll leave it with Him.

Michigan is split into 2 time zones and

All counties in Michigan's Lower Peninsula observe Eastern Time, as do most counties in the state's Upper Peninsula. The U.P. counties that do not are the four counties which have a land border with Wisconsin and they are in the Central Time zone.
