James Comeys election-shattering decision to revive the investigation of Hillary Clintons email server was based not only on what his agents found on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedins laptop. His judgment was also influenced by mounting pressure among mutinous agents in the FBI, including many of his top deputies.
The atmosphere at the FBI has been toxic ever since Jim announced last July that he wouldnt recommend an indictment against Hillary, according to a source close to the embattled FBI director, who has known Comey for nearly two decades, shares family outings with him, and accompanies him to Catholic mass every week.
Some people, including department heads, stopped talking to Jim, and even ignored his greetings when they passed him in the hall, said the source. They felt that he betrayed them and brought disgrace on the bureau by letting Hillary off with a slap on the wrist.
According to the source, Comey fretted over the problem for months and discussed it at great length with his wife, Patrice.
He told his wife that he was depressed by the stack of resignation letters piling up on his desk from disaffected agents. The letters reminded him every day that morale in the FBI had hit rock bottom.
Hes been ignoring the resignation letters in the hope that he could find a way of redeeming himself in the eyes of his colleagues and the nation, said the source. When new emails that appeared to be related to Hillarys personal email server turned up in a computer used by [her close aide] Huma Abedin and [Abedins disgraced husband] Anthony Weiner, Comey jumped at the excuse to reopen the investigation.
The people he trusts the most have been the angriest at him, the source continued. And that includes his wife, Pat. She kept urging him to admit that he had been wrong when he refused to press charges against the former secretary of state.
He talks about the damage that hes done to himself and the institution [of the FBI], and how hes been shunned by the men and women who he admires and work for him. Its taken a tremendous toll on him. It shattered his ego. He looks like hes aged 10 years in the past four months.
But Comeys decision to reopen the case was more than an effort to heal the wound he inflicted on the FBI. He was also worried that after the presidential election, Republicans in Congress would mount a probe of how he had granted Hillary political favoritism.
His announcement about the revived investigation, which came just 11 days before the presidential election, was greeted with shock and dismay by Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the prosecutors at the Justice Department.
Jim told me that Lynch and Obama were furious with him, the source said.
As I revealed in my latest New York Times bestseller Guilty As Sin ,Obama said that appointing Comey as FBI director was my worst mistake as president.
“not only on what his agents found on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedins laptop. His judgment was also influenced by mounting pressure among mutinous agents in the FBI, including many of his top deputies”
I was hoping it was gonna say because he wants to do the right thing..... I shoulda known better.
Rumor - he has formed a group of 40 “untouchables” to investigate it all. Probably dreams about a movie made about him
Because goons from the JCOS held a gun to his head and assured him that his signature or his brains would be on the letter ordering the investigation.
I think this is part of it. But the other part is a quiet revolt in the ranks. He saw himself being destroyed by that.
Déjà vu
1. Comey knew all along that Clinton had to pay for her crimes.
2. The politicized Department of Justice would never let that happen.
3. The best way for the wheels of true justice to get in motion would be for Hillary Clinton to lose the election.
4. The most effective way to damage her chances of winning the election would be to get the investigation reopened very late in the campaign, so there would be no way to complete the investigation before Election Day.
where the heck does klein get his info ? This almost sounds like it comes from Comey’s wife.
I’d say he stepped up to the plate because he got an email that said....Have you ever visited Marcy Park?? H
When you face a mutiny from logical people, you’ve usually done something very wrong. He needs to recommend a grand jury to seek an indictment, and he needs to do this today or tomorrow.
I think that the NYPD investigation of weiner came upon the motherlode of dirt on the whole clinton-huma-obama-DNC racketeering operation, and they copied every single bit of info for leverage.
Now, the DOJ and FBI are coming under assault from multiple angles, including a potential rebellion from within.
Comey and lynch are being backed into a corner, and I expect that obama will use his position to attempt to kill the messengers. Their only chance to succeed relies on the MSM to keep running interference for them, but that is already beginning to fall apart.
I thought I had put the correct link in. I had forgotten the h ttp:// and added it before I hit post
Yep, I think Comey had to let the team re-open the investigation and tell Congress or else the NY FBI agents would leak it to the press and Comey would be impeached and disgraced after the election for hiding it from Congress after he testified that he would tell Congress if it was re-opened.
Obama has to publicly stand by Comey because if he admits that Comey is not the pillar of integrity, then the Obama Administration argument against appointing a Special Counsel falls apart.
I asked the moderator to correct it.
... so they send letters and 3 months later they're still working there?
Mr. Comey did the right thing last Friday.
Comey did it by letter, not press release, and on a day when Dems traditionally dump bad news they can't keep quiet - the weekend news cycle.
This was coming out anyway, from NYC cops, WikiLeaks, and maybe his own troops. Team Hillary wanted to come out ahead of it and bottle it up as a "pending investigation". Media was supposed to ignore it and by Monday it would be forgotten. No actual "investigation" would be done, they'd just clamp a lid on everything for 11 days.
That was wishful thinking on Hillary's part. Media wouldn't fall on their swords for her, NYC wouldn't shut up, and Assange couldn't be stopped either.
This plan to stall until after Nov. 8th was a failure, but they had no other alternative.
Don’t you just know how much every single FBI agent that worked on this despised Hillary everytime she or one of her surrogates stood up and talked about her being ‘cleared’. Especially after Comey outlined her guilt, even if he said she wasn’t prosecutable.
Hmmm... Similar to the wishful thinking about the ME, which lead to 400,000 dead Syrians, for starters.
My possible take(s) on why Comey acted:
1) Comey said he would notify Congress if the status of the investigation changed, and he did. In case he was not decent enough to honor his word, if he had not notified Congress, and word got out B4 Nov. 8, he'd really be in deep doodoo, and the case for "draining the swamp", and him with it, would be all the much stronger in the eyes of average citizens.
2) The internal rebellion at the FBI could not be tamped down.
3) (Tin foil hat theory) If Comey had originally recommended an indictment, he would have been attacked as a Pro-Pub hack, DOJ / Lynch possibly could have put the recommendation "under review" and potentially (and very publicly) "investigated the investigation". There would be plenty of time before the election to, with the aid of the MSM, obfuscate and confuse the issue in the minds of average voters. Instead, and especially if he had a hint that more information might be coming out, Comey declines to recommend indictment, and Dems fall all over themselves to praise his integrity. Then, once he has enough new info. to reopen the investigation, he notifies Congress, and the Dems rush to attack Comey -- only now they expose their utter hypocrisy. (Obama sidesteps that last part.)
4) All of the above in various proportions.
