According to the article (which is good) most of the devices used were cheap little DVRs and low end IP cameras sourced to XiongMai Technologies and sold in the Chinese market. The idiots put the same default password on everything! Allegedly almost every device sold was eventually compromised (apparently millions of them).

Those idiots should be arrested for criminal negligence. I agree with the author that there should be at least a basic UL certification on these devices to prevent this sort of crap. This isn’t high tech hacking at all. It’s just basic stupidity.

...and AK-47’s were products of the oppressive Soviet regime.

Sweden while approaching the edge of the abyss at an increasing speed is not a global threat.

I can live with the Fiskars which accompany my 45+ year old cross-cut and rip handsaws, still quite capable and useful.

Well, many threads were posted— I posted probably a dozen threads or more imploring people to contact talk radio, their representatives, Senators, etc. I know some did, and I was sooo appreciative...

However, there were people who actually posted they thought the whole thing was hyperbole, the internet should go down because it is a vehicle for porn, let it go down and we will build a new, better one, Trump will fix it, and so on...The day after the transfer, they posted...”Internet is still here,” etc.

Very disappointing and surprising...I wish I knew how many actually responded to the call for action...

I think a combination of normalcy bias and full schedules contributed to the inertia—plus the media totally ignored the issue :(

Yes, barry was determined, and now we can see why. However, if the outcry from We the People had been deafening, we might have been able to stop it again for a third time as they (the critters) are up for re-election and slightly more inclined to listen.

Sooo now we have outages, shutdowns, and threads setting up contingency plans...I guess this is the new normal.

We did what we could- I emailed a called my useless congressmen, etc. They were very concerned... Thanks for what you did.

I think that Google, Amazon, Apple, etc. must have wanted the Internet out of US control for reasons I can’t entirely fathom. If the “masters of the universe” in Silicon Valley didn’t want this it would not have happened IMHO.

I can think of no way in which this action benefited the United State, Obama, or anyone else involved. It was just a gleeful knife in the back, an act of political vandalism.

Here is the modem we use. Since the last lightning Armageddon the only wire connection we have out here in the sticks is for power.

Attached to one of these I get downloads of up to 12MB/sec which isn't too bad.
