A massive and sustained Internet attack that has caused outages and network congestion today for a large number of Web sites was launched with the help of hacked Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as CCTV video cameras and digital video recorders, new data suggests.

Didn’t know a modem (from Cox Com) required patching??
This global DDoS attack is just the beginning.
IMHO, the USA will come to rue the day they “gave away” the Internet.
Great, an Arduino worm.
I’ve this done with infected home computers back in the day. The trojan was called sub7 and was inserted into pirated software on ftp sites. Hoards of greedy people downloaded “free” software rather than pay for it. Their computers were taken over and used to send packets to a server.
+ seen
I say it’s part of the NWO agenda.
Putting the United Nations in charge of anything is not something rational minds do.
Unless, of course, you’re part of the group(s) that is(are) dismantling America and traditional American values for many years now.
You could say a “fundamental transforming” is taking place.
Some of the more "modern" modems are probably more susceptible than others. I periodically check the website of the manufacturer of mine to see if firmware upgrades and patches are available. A few months ago, an upgrade became available; so I took it into the local office of my ISP to have it installed.

I wish more freepers had taken this more seriously...I spent better part of 2 weeks trying to post news, phone numbers, and updates/alerts, call Congressmen for updates, etc... Sadly Very few cared! :( Eh not enough to get off the forum and make some calls/write some letters.
Instead, many sad not going to happen, we will build a better internet, Trump will fix it, etc...
I would have thought we could stop this in an election year and was really hopeful :(
We are going to be paying the price for a long time...
Completely unrelated. This is due to the public's obsession with interconnecting everything possible, and the nearly total lack of interest in cybersecurity on the part of the public, government and industry.
Hillary is already a strong supporter of UN Res. 16/18, written and sponsored by the 57-nation OIC (Org of Islamic Cooperation). This bans "blasphemy" such as any objective critique of Mad Mo's insane murder cult. "Hate sites" like Breitbart will have their plug pulled.
Anybody seen Julian Assange lately?
A couple-few weeks ago, for my router. AFAIK it won’t allow access for management from outside the local network. But there are a lot of devices on the internet that DO allow management from the web, many with little if any security. Not sure about the cable modem, as it’s not at all under my control.
The TV and Blu-ray player update themselves regularly. I would hope these things don’t allow access from outside the local network. But I really don’t know.
The current dictator gave it away!! We The People had no say in it yet. November 8th is our turn!!
I don’t think it’s reasonable to hold the users responsible for the security of most of these devices. They are consumer devices, meant for a wide audience, and most people don’t understand nearly enough about these things to be able to secure them, if there even is anything they can do secure them. I hold the manufacturers responsible, for the most part.
Oh indeed they will
Tough enough dealing with DDOS attacks today... good thing this wasn't available to my last ex.
I wonder if Smart TV’s are used for these DNS attacks?
The internet of things is a great source of “tools” to use for such a DDoS attack.
Death by a thousand cuts per se ......et cetera et cetera.
