Sippy Cupp: Paul Ryan Is Doing The Smart Thing (barf alert)
NY Daily News.com ^ | 8 hours agp

But there’s another reason Ryan is likely concerned about November. It’s one he might not publicly acknowledge, but, knowing him, I imagine it’s crossed his mind more than once.

A Republican majority wouldn’t just be a crucial check on a Hillary Clinton administration. It would be a crucial check on a Donald Trump administration.

Ryan has every reason to believe that if elected, Trump will require significant reining in by the legislative branch. For one, he could revert back to the liberal positions he held before calling himself a Republican. More realistically, he could govern as a centrist, abandoning some of the core conservative policies he promised voters he’d back.

Or he could govern as the authoritarian he’s often run as, abusing executive power to implement his wildly unconstitutional proposals, skirting Congress and the will of the people and taking unprecedented liberties. Whichever of these Presidents shows up, a Republican Congress will be necessary to keep him in line — and the country out of trouble with our allies and enemies alike.

Paul Ryan is smart. He’s doing what he knows is best for Republicans, Congress, and, ultimately, the country.

LOL. As if Democrats would have Paul Ryan’s and the GOP’s best interest at heart.

The one with the liberal tendencies is Lyin’ Ryan.
He’s the one who has funded everything the Kenyanesian Usurper has wanted and supports open borders and TPP.

After this, Ryan knows he’s finished either way. If Trump wins, he will force him out of the Speakership. If Trump loses, he will be blamed for the chaos that results including the death of the GOP.

I think he did this intentionally, as there is no upside for him to remain Speaker. It’s already on his resume, he can now look forward to returning to his role as WI Congressman where he can count on 80% re-election landslides every two years from the good conservative Republicans in District 1 who love him.

I would fully expect Ryan and his minions to oppose a President Trump with much greater fervor than they ever hinted of showing toward President Obama.

Up to and including impeachment.

Apparently, it’s the ‘smart thing’ these days to stab your buddies in the back and betray America.

Sign of the times.

Well when they start with the absurd notion that Paul “Rubber Stamp” Ryan would do anything to check Hillary Clinton lawless, authoritarian tendencies, you know the article is a ridiculous waste of time.

As per the title:

"Ryan has every reason to believe that if elected, Trump will require significant reining in by the legislative branch."

Even if that were true, there are far more-principled members of Congress that I would trust to do that job in place of Ryan.

Just like the check they provided on the Obozo aministration.

Paul Ryan is not stupid.

But, S. E. Cupp surely is. Good thing she is attractive, because were she not, she would never make it writing stupid stuff such as this.

With a Mrs Bill administration a Republican Congress will have no influence in the o\course of the nation and will serve only to ratify and expedite whatever the President wants. In that way a Republican Congress will be indistinguishable from a Democrat Congress. It will take two years for the Republicans to even start complaining and then it will be no more significant than it is in Venezuela. In a Trump administration a Republican Congress will try mightily to stymie the President but if Trump is the man the Republic needs him to be, it will be to no avail. The Republicans in Congress and out have wholeheartedly ceded all congressional power to the Executive and cannot take it back. The only real system correction that is possible has to come through an authoritarian nationalist who abolishes the Agencies and cleans out the Civil Service and then a Convention of the States.

If Trump somehow manages to get elected after every institutional power in the world has opposed him with everything they have, he will enter office with more political capital than any US President in history.

And any Congress, Dem or GOP will give him anything he asks for.
