A U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer was targeted on Sunday in a failed missile attack from territory in Yemen controlled by Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, a U.S. military spokesman told Reuters, saying neither of the two missiles hit the ship.
The attempted strike on the USS Mason, which was first reported by Reuters, came just a week after a United Arab Emirates vessel came under attack from Houthis and suggests growing risks to the U.S. military from Yemen's conflict.
The failed missile attack on the USS Mason began around 7 p.m. local time, when the ship detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period in the Red Sea off Yemen's coast, the U.S. military said.
"Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship," Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said. "There were no injuries to our sailors and no damage to the ship."

Every ship passing through the Suez Canal has to go through this choke point.
We are committed to keeping the waterway open and safe. If the Houthi/Iranians begin firing at shipping, per this attack, we will have to attack ground targets in Yemen.
This scenario is highly likely, could easily be our next shooting war.

Oh well, at least we can assume we got our money back on the investment in the USS Mason's Phalanx Anti Missile system.
This is about as serious as an attack can get and the recent Iran supported Houthi missile attacks against Gulf war ships coincide almost perfectly with Obama Administration release of 150 billion dollars to Iran.
Iran was open that they were going to spend that money on a wide range of offensive and defensive missiles.
Where was the counter fire?

What were Obama’s rules of engagement? Wouldn’t a missile attack automatically trigger counter measures or were the orders from the Muslim in Chief to just sit there?
From what I have read the CWIS wasn’t used.
An environmental impact study couldn’t be done in time. Those projectiles might harm the sea snakes and other aquatic life.
Did the ROE Obozo set down for the ship allow it to defend itself?

I would be surprised if *any* USN Captain takes his ship anywhere near Yemen these days without Phalanx at the ready, a couple E/Sea Sparrows warmed up, and the deck guns manned.
