An environmental impact study couldn’t be done in time. Those projectiles might harm the sea snakes and other aquatic life.

From what I have read the CWIS wasn’t used.Still leaves possibilities, that those shooting the missile cannot shoot straight, ECM on the ship confused the missiles, and the new laser wonder weapon worked as advertised. I have no idea if any of those or a combination are even probable.
