Weekly Update: Clinton Scandal Update

Hillary Clinton’s use of an email server in the basement of her home while she was secretary of state will leave a permanent stain on our system of justice and on the public’s trust in government.

This became abundantly clear during our “Clinton Scandal Update – Emails and the Clinton Foundation” symposium held here in Washington on September 29, 2016. The full video is available here – and is well worth watching and sharing.

Chris Farrell, our director of investigations, and I were joined by three distinguished experts: WND senior staff writer Jerome Corsi, author of Partners in Crime: The Clinton’s Scheme to Monetize the White House for Personal Profit; Peter Schweizer, author of the New York Times best-seller Clinton Cash; and Joseph E. diGenova, former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Peter Schweizer pointed out that the Clintons’ pay-for-play scandal sets “an extremely dangerous precedent. This is about more than the Clintons,” he said. “If it is not dealt with in a legal manner, it’s going to be imitated.” He also noted that this scandal dwarfs anything we have seen before in terms of efforts to hide what was occurring and in the sheer amount of money involved.

Chris Farrell spoke of the permanent damage done to the reputation of the FBI by Director James Comey’s negligence. “Mr. Comey is personally compromised,” he said. “The institution won’t get over it.” As you know, before joining Judicial Watch Chris worked in national intelligence. He pointed out that we know of at least 22 emails crossing Clinton’s unsecure server that contained “sensitive compartmented information,” a high level of classification. “This puts the United States at grave risk. Any first class intelligence organization would be looking for that kind of information.”

Jerome Corsi described how enormous sums of money that flowed into the Clinton Foundation cannot be accounted for. “Tens of millions of dollars were diverted,” he asserted. There is a discrepancy between what people gave the foundation and what it reported. “The Clintons ended up with net worths of 100 million dollars each.” And the speaking engagements don’t begin to account for it, he said.

Joe diGenova came down hard on FBI Director James Comey. “I do not believe Comey is fit to continue in office. His arrogance and obfuscation should disqualify anyone with the power the FBI has. He violated his oath. It is very clear that from the moment he took control of this investigation he decided he was not going to recommend prosecution. It was a political decision.”

I added that Congress has refused to take any kind of substantive action on the scandal. “Congress is refusing to take steps to hold Mrs. Clinton accountable. Why isn’t there a contempt citation pending now? Emails were destroyed after they were subpoenaed. Congressmen don’t want accountability to get in their way of retaining the Congress. I’m talking about the Republicans.”

I also noted that civil service employees stayed quiet even though they knew what was going on with Clinton’s non-state.gov email apparatus. “It’s a fundamental issue of government transparency,” I said. “We depend on the good faith of government when we file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. We rely on civil servants to do the job they’ve been entrusted to do. Hillary Clinton tore that compact up. If Mrs. Clinton gets away with it, if there’s no institutional accountability for her conduct, FOIA may end because you can’t rely on the law being enforced.”

This, as you can see, is no longer just about Bill and Hillary Clinton. It’s about the federal government generally, the FBI, the Department of Justice, the rule of law, national security, transparency and trust in government. EXCERPT--Newly released FBI documents detailing theinvest igation of Hillary’s State dept emails reveal the aide who would likely follow her into the White House as chief counsel was central to a cover-up of evidence sought by investigators.

Yet despite signs, Clinton’s former chief of staff Cheryl Mills obstructed efforts by investigators to obtain Clinton’s emails, the FBI invited Mills to attend Hillary’s interview at FBI headquarters as one of her lawyers.

“It’s absolutely outrageous,” J/W President Tom Fitton said. “The FBI saw massive document destruction and clear intent to withhold material evidence,” he added, “and they just ignored that obstruction, and even let her sit in on the interview.”

The smoking gun is on page 16 of the FBI’s 47-page report. It details how Mills ultimately made the determinations about which emails should be preserved before she and Clinton decided to delete the rest as “personal.” Clinton conducted both government and personal business using a personal email account — clintonemail.com — tied to an unsecured server set up in the basement of her New York home.

The FBI makes clear the procedure Mills used to sort out the emails was suspicious. Mills was the one who ordered the server host to move the emails from the server to a laptop where she could screen them. She told investigators she could “not recall” if emails with non-gov addresses were included in the transfer.

It’s unlikely they were, because an aide who helped her search told the FBI she only screened for emails sent to or from Clinton with .gov and .mil — not .com — addresses.--SNIP-- (Excerpt) Read more at nypost.com ...

She doesn’t recall, she doesn’t recollect. She’s not sure. She just doesn’t know. Hillary Clinton’s counsel, chief of staff (and US govt employee), doesn’t know a lot of things. She can’t remember testimony she gave. She isn’t sure if she spoke to anyone – she doesn’t remember Hillary’s email address, she doesn’t even know who might know anything. During seven hours of testimony before Judicial Watch, Cheryl Mills said “I don’t know” or some variation of ignorance at least 189 times. (Hillary didn't know 50 temes and blamed a blood clot on her brain for her forgetfulness).

Mills is clearly adept at finding ways to proclaim her ignorance. She was Bill Clinton’s counsel during the impeachment proceedings in the 1990s and has been a close advisor for both Bill and Hillary Clinton for decades.

Breitbart compiled a list of the near-200 times Mills declared how little she knows.

FBI Director James Comey admitted in his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee that they found "some" classified emails on the computers of longtime Hillary Clinton confidante Cheryl Mills and another top aide. Both aides, however, were given immunity in the case, which conveniently protects them from being prosecuted from anything found on their computers.

When asked if these classified emails constituted a crime, Comey first dodged the question asking “if what was a crime,” and then offered a somewhat roundabout response: “you’d have to know what were the circumstances... [and] the intention around it.”

But House Republicans charge that it’s a cover up. Alana Goodman of the Washington Free Beacon details how Cheryl Mills, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s longtime underling, apparently collected a paycheck from New York University at the same time she was serving as Chief of Staff of the State Department.

According to the Beacon article: After joining the State Department in the beginning of 2009, Mills continued to serve as general counsel for New York University for several months. She also sat on the board of the “NYU in Abu Dhabi Corporation,” the fundraising arm for the university’s UAE satellite campus. The school is bankrolled by the Abu Dhabi government and has been criticized by NYU professors and human rights activists for alleged labor abuses.

The UAE is a major funder of the Clinton Foundation, on whose board Mills sat. The article quotes NLPC Chairman Ken Boehm: “Federal of conflict interest statutes are very strict, and they want to ensure that federal employees, especially very senior special employees like Cheryl Mills, do not have any conflicts of interest in any matter that they have a hand in,” said Boehm. “Given her position, the dual position of counselor and chief of staff, presumably she would have access to almost any decision of importance that came out of the State Department.”
