Hillary got some home-cooking from Lester Holt
Todd Starnes.com ^ | September 27, 2016 | Todd Starnes

The nation got to see the best and the brightest that the Republicans and Democrats had to offer last night at Hofstra University. Here are six takeaways from the debate:

1. Somebody forgot to tell the moderator that he was supposed to moderate and not debate Donald Trump. Lester Holt, of the Nobody But Clinton network, was clearly in the tank for Hillary Clinton. I suspect he was secretly auditioning to be her press secretary. Just tally the number of times Holt interrupted Trump and pressed him on follow up questions and then compare that number to Hillary’s. As we say in Dixie, Hillary got some home-cookin'.

2. Hillary Clinton does not hold the American people in high esteem. She previously referred to us as a “Basket of Deplorables” and irredeemable. But during the debate she accused us of having an “implicit bias” against African-Americans. She seems to believe the only way to redeem all of us gun-toting, Bible-clinging Deplorables is to shame us into submission.

3. If Donald Trump’s record on women is fair game, then so is Hillary’s. She needs to be called out for taking money from countries that treat women as second-class citizens. She needs to be called out for the terrible things she said about her husband’s “lady friends.” Hillary also took a swipe at Trump’s achievements. She said the only reason he was successful was because of his father. To be fair, Trump could argue that the only reason for Hillary’s success is because of her husband.

4. Trump needs to let go of the birther stuff – even if the Mainstream Media won’t. And he needs to either release his tax returns or come up with a better excuse for why he won’t.

5. There was no clear winner – but that does not mean Trump lost. In spite of the Mainstream Media’s disgusting narrative, millions of Americans tuned in to discover that Trump does not wear gold-lined bed sheets or burn crosses at Mar-a-Lago.

6. There is bipartisan agreement that Hillary should never do another shoulder shimmy on national television. Ever.

Trump needs to let go of the birther stuff

Is Trump the one who keeps bringing this up? I think he closed the door on this, but the media keeps opening it.

4. Trump needs to let go of the birther stuff – even if the Mainstream Media won’t. And he needs to either release his tax returns or come up with a better excuse for why he won’t.

Wrong.

If he's under audit, you don't put in public what is still under investigation. In Trump's case, we're probably talking millions of dollars difference in what is or isn't accepted or not accepted by the IRS.

And the flimsy statement that the IRS says that an audit doesn't mean you can't release your records fails to take into account the need to settle differences. IT's like telling a suspect that he can waive his rights and talk to the police. Yes, he can. Is it smart? No, it isn't.

Finally, I don't care about Trump's taxes. We're talking a tax record from when he was a private citizen. I'm not interested in private citizen tax returns. I'm interested in politician's tax returns. I want to see how and where they got their money since I know what their low salary actually is. Like Clinton being worth 200 million bucks on a 180,000 a year salary. I'm interested in that.

I know where a businessman primarily in real estate got his money, and it wasn't from my tax dollars.

Trump just needs to say, “my tax return is under audit and as soon as the audit is complete, we will turn in the results.” Clinton would be nuts to question an auditor on Trump’s tax returns.

The nuttiest part of this is that Obama HIMSELF penned his own biographical description on an autobiography in 2001. He stated that he was born in Kenya. Who passes out the cognitive dissonance pills to the media? Trump isn’t a fool. Unlike a lot of people, he doesn’t want to be treated like one. It is as clear as the nose on one’s face that there are huge discrepancies in all the versions of Obama’s birth. When I person writes that he was born in Kenya, one normally has no reason to doubt it. Either Obama lied then or he lied later in reversing his claim about where he was born. The media have been in the tank for Obama, and now for Hillary.

Trump needs to do several things:

1) Not answer any more birther questions. Now that he has made a statement, and the topic has come up in a debate, his answer if it comes up in the future should be that “This has already been discussed and I’m not going to waste anybody else’s time discussing the same old thing. Why don’t we instead talk about how to create more jobs in this country and to restore our strength and our respect overseas?”

2) On the tax issue, he should indicate that he has already made his final offer, which is that he will release his tax returns against his lawyers’ advice if Hillary Clinton releases the 33,000 emails. Additionally, while speaking about that he can simultaneously raise the issue of the pay-to-play corruption involving the Clinton Foundation. That will completely throw Hillary back on her heels, and change the focus of the question. Additionally, Trump can raise the issue of what the Clinton Foundation does with its money, given that it only gives about 6% of its received funds to actual charitable causes. Where’s the rest of the money? Why isn’t that money on the Clintons’ tax return? Finally, he should indicate that Hillary is very jealously guarding the content of all of the speeches that she gave to Goldman Sachs and a bunch of other high-powered Wall Street firms and banks. He needs to raise the question of what was she telling them, and why were they willing to pay so much money - 5 times the average yearly income of Americans - for a 45 minute speech. It would be very telling for him to say “I know the world of the big banks and investment banking firms, and they don’t spend that kind of money for nothing. What did they pay for? What is it that Secretary Clinton is hiding?”

3) On the moderator issue, I think that Trump needs to preemptively hit the next 2 moderators in his first answer, or with his opening statement. He needs to say something to the effect of “Thank you Mr. X for being the moderator, I know that the American people are looking forward to a fair and objective debate between Secretary Clinton and myself.”

4) Finally, he needs to hit her hard on her view of the American people. He needs to cite the basket of deplorables statement, as well as her statement in this past debate about everybody having a problem with racism. He needs to say “Secretary Clinton, how do you actually view your potential constituents, the American people? Because it seems to me that you hold a very large number of them in utter contempt. You have condemned half of my supporters in no uncertain terms as being a bunch of racists, homophobes, islamophobes, etc., and in the last debate stated quite clearly that everybody has a problem with racism. How can you be seeking the votes of so many people that you apparently can’t stand?”

Two good answers, first on birther questions: President Obama is not on the ballot, no one cares, next question please. For treatment of women: Well Mrs Clinton, what do you call your husband’s girlfriends?

Just like the IRS went after conservatives they are now leaking information to democrat elites. When Trump wins there should be criminal investigations against the IRS and the people involved.

The ‘elites’ in DC hire the best CPA’s around... but better than that they write the laws that give breaks to people like themselves AND their friends in business.

When someone they don’t like uses the tax code AS IT IS SET UP they use that information to attack. Don’t kid yourself - liberal elites have save the best for themselves... and that includes tax benefits for the people who ‘build nothing, produce nothing and feed off the taxes paid by American citizens...’

“And he needs to either release his tax returns”

What’s the matter with his deal to release his returns as soon as Hillary releases a bunch of heretofore unreleased emails?

By the way, I like the analysis of Trump’s strategy that I saw in another thread. In this past debate his job was to prove that he’s not a monster foaming at the mouth to return to the Jim Crow era or start a nuclear war with the Russians. The second debate will be about crushing Hillary in the eyes of the American people by bringing up all of her corruption and all of her incompetence. The third debate will be about selling himself, about why he as a businessman is the person best suited to get our economy moving again.

Let’s all remember that he is not only not stupid, but he is a long-term thinker. He could not possibly have been as successful as he has been in the business world without having this characteristic. His job now is to sell the American people on a Trump presidency. The steps outlined above will do exactly that. While I think that he could have done better in this past debate, he did well enough that most objective observers are calling it a draw. Being the challenger in a cycle in which people are looking for change means that a draw is a win for him.

The “natural born citizen” provision of the Constitution is a technicality. Would Obama have been a great president if he had been born in Illinois? Would Reagan have been a terrible president if he had been born in Canada? The framers of the Constitution were desperately hoping that Washington (and all took for granted that he would be the first POTUS) should be succeeded by others of similar character and wisdom. But they of course knew that he would not be POTUS forever, and they knew that no one else had Washington’s reputation at that time. The NBC provision was the best that they could do at the time, and they had other provisions which should have prevented Hillary from even running for POTUS - specifically,
Article 1 Section 9:
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state

This provision should be enforced by legislation/court action at the state level:

Article II Section 1:
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress . . ..
A year ago I wrote my (Republican) state rep. asking why anyone (implicitly, Hillary) should be allowed to have candidates for Elector on the ballot in the state with anything resembling the Clinton Foundation accepting gifts from multiple foreign governments while Secretary of State without once getting the consent of the House of Representatives. I got a reply, but not a serious answer. All it would have taken would have been for a few purple states - or even blue ones - to have passed laws enabling the courts to enforce that constitutional provision (by ruling on a lawsuit demanding that she be kept off the ballot) to have forced the Democrat Party to back away from crooked Hillary.

Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren would have been the D nominee. Not that that would have been that much better for the country if he actually won . . .

Yet he seems to be determined to do his best to convince everyone otherwise with his rambling, sometimes incoherent, responses that drone on and on without actually addressing the question. His best approach would be to answer a question directly and then quit talking.

Hillary and her people wrote the questions and gave them to NBC, not the other way around.

Emails will not get MSM scrutiny. Tax returns will get the Harry Reid treatment.

No way should he release tax returns. If anything, just the results of the audit.

As I said, he could have done better, and I don’t disagree with you on that.

But consider that he has purposely cultivated the image of a non-politician. If he came off with a slick answer to every question or challenge, it’d undercut that image. That’s a LOT of his support.
