A Post Debate Poll conducted after the presidential showdown at Hofstra University finds Hillary Clinton put on the best performance, but Donald Trump won votes. While voters 47% to 44% think that Mrs. Clinton “won the first presidential debate,” Mr. Trump won over undecided voters who changed their mind by nearly a 3 to 1 margin.
Nine percent (9%) were undecided on the question of who won the debate.
Among those who were undecided (5%) before the debate, 31% changed their mind and now say they’ll support the New York businessman. By comparison, only 11% of previously undecided voters said they will now vote for the former secretary of state.
The results were noteworthy, considering more voters than not thought Mrs. Clinton gave a better debate performance. Authenticity, honesty and trustworthiness played and will continue to play a big role in voters’ preferences ahead of November.
“Voters are looking for Donald Trump to basically give them permission to vote for him, fair or not,” says PPD’s senior analyst Richard Baris. “If he improves in the next two debates, which he did during the primary, things could get really ugly really fast for Hillary Clinton.”
Regarding the debate, which most mainstream pundits gave to Mrs. Clinton, most voters expected her to be polished on stage. But they were watching to see if Mr. Trump could pass the presidential bar.
“He was restrained, He came off much more natural,” said Shaun Ellis, an independent voter from Hopington, New Hampshire. “Hillary looked weak on the economy,” adding he decided “we need new blood.”
Of course, not everyone agreed he met that bar. The good news for Mr. Trump and his supporters: the vast majority of those who don’t think he met that threshold are Democratic partisans.

Considering that she memorized the script given to her by NBC and Lester Holt, yeah, she put on a very good performance! Lying for years have done her well. I bet she’ll get an Emmy for it.

We’ve had 30+ years of Clinton rule, and what has that gotten us..absolutely NOTHING..NOTHING her husband did or Hillary did made our lives better..Hillary Clinton talked about traveling the world as Secretary of State, and wherever she went, dead bodies followed..so I dont consider that to be a huge accomplishment
When Trump was talking about China devaluating it's currency , the Mexican Vat Tax in NAFTA, How Yellen and Obama have made the fed political, the 800 trillion trade deficit and many other things Hillary looked like a deer in the headlights.
Shrillary's only success is her ability to get out of jail free ...so far, but I'm telling ya, if Trump gets elected you watch how fast she produces those health records....her sickness is Plan B for staying out of jail.

Her Emmy might be on hold due to the face scratching signals and potential collusion between her and Holt during the debate. It is on another FR thread and bound to be scrutinized in coming days...

It seems like there’s a big difference in judging Trump’s performance between his primary supporters and opponents. Larry Elder was all for Trump in the primary and he savaged his debate performance on his radio show tonight, saying he was awful. Dennis Prager was a major Trump opponent in the primary and seemed to spend his whole show highlighting everything Trump said and did right, saying there was only one or two weak spots. Seems like the expectations Trump’s primary supporters had led them to be more disappointed.
Trump should accept Cruz's offer for debate prep. Cruz can play stand in for HIllary.
I've been a fan of Trump since he 80’s but all Americans have to unite to defeat communist Hillary.
