Donald Trump Says He Is Troubled By Tulsa Police Shooting

DONALD J. TRUMP: Well as you know, I am a tremendous believer in the police and the law enforcement, because we need that for ourselves, we do, we really do. And I have gotten the endorsement of so many different police groups. And they are great people, they are great people.

Now, great people, you always have problems. Somebody in there that either makes a mistake, that is bad, or that chokes.

I must tell you, I watched the shooting in particular in Tulsa, and that man was hands up, that man went to the car, hands up, put his hand on the car. To me it looked like he did everything you're supposed to do.

And he looked like a really good man -- maybe I'm a little clouded because I saw his family talking about him after the fact, so you get a little bit different image maybe. But to me it looked like someone who was doing what they were asking him to do.

And this young officer, I don't know what she was thinking. I don't know what she was thinking. But I'm very, very troubled by that. I'm very, very troubled by that. And we have to be very careful.

So, these things are terrible. In my opinion, that was a terrible situation. And we've seen others. And the police are aware of that too. By the way, the police are troubled by that too, the police see it too.

Was she scared? Was she choking? What happened? But maybe people like that, people that choke, people that do that, maybe they can't be doing what they're doing. They can't be doing what they're doing.

So we all respect our police greatly, and they will just have to get better and better and better.

I wouldn't call this a pander. I'd rather that more black people woke up to the fact that our problems with police for the most part derive from our own actions, but that is not to say that police do not make mistakes, nor is it to say that police operate completely without racial biases. It's good for Trump to acknowledge those concerns, but provide leadership so that a couple of tragic incidents do not turn into a self-destructive war on cops.

Also, not sure if this violates the excerpting policy, they're his words spoken publicly, which I would think would be in the public domain.

Everyone should be troubled by the Tulsa shooting. By all we can see and hear, it stinks. Another death to tar all police.

IMO this is already a little too much from him. How many times have we groaned at Obama’s two cents on police shootings. I hope he doesn’t get baited into a big debate or a lot of questions from the MSM, which would just be trying to back him into one corner or another.

All this urban violence troubles me. And it is not easy being a police officer or a black man caught in an argument with the way our media and the Dems have promoted racial hatred in this country. Look straight and Illary and Obama for creating that problem.

Trump is attempting to diffuse the situation by showing some compassion and understanding. It is the correct way to handle the dispute.

I’m not. Need to know more. Was he on PCP, as has been reported?

As you noted, Trump was not pandering here. He was speaking from the heart, like a person would when talking to a good friend. And that’s one reason people support him.

Hillary, on the other hand, will say nothing until all her advisers have weighed in.

Need more facts. I’ve heard conflicting information and I know there can be liars on both sides of the equation. I’ll wait to hear more before coming to any conclusions.

I disagree. The AA community and city is looking for a leader who truly cares, and Trump is not running from the problem. He knows what he is doing... and it was others who asked for his opinion.

If he is troubled by it, then he is troubled by it.

It doesn’t bother me that he wants to express his opinion.

Personally, I’m not going to be bothered by it until I am shown actual evidence that a crime was committed.

If police in this case did commit a crime, then they should be charged accordingly. If not, then nothing.

Why was he walking all that way back to his car? Was the cop ordering him to stop? Did he reach into the window of his car right before he was shot?

Donald can’t; he already embraced the blue issue, therefore has taken moral ownership of the whole shebang.

He could bring a calming voice to the whole thing, promising to look at all aspects of such questions and apply the best wisdom possible. I believe that the attorney of the family involved has pointed out that the window of the car was shut, and therefore this was likely a police mistake rather than a furtive gesture.

I am bothered by it as well. I am waiting to hear more info before I make a judgement, but it does bother me at this time. Doesn’t make me a cop hating idiot though.

I also seen this in Tulsa...and wondered the same thing as Trump...

The guy looked like he was doing what he was told, I don’t know what happened before the cameras were rolling, but he did everything he was told...

How long was she on the force? What are their training procedures now in this situation? I don’t know what was going through her head, survival I would imagine, but still, did he have a gun, if so, where was it, was he going for it, did he have a prior, who was he, all these things need to be answered BEFORE you pull your weapon I would think...

No, WE all have a right to these answers, we are not going to get the Country together if we don’t start with answers and calling it how it is...

I agree with Trump...

It’s possible, if Benjamin Crump’s account is right and the car’s window was in fact visibly shut, this was a police “mistake.”

Without good audio of the scene, we only have the officers’ sayso. An “assume the position” order could quite easily go south here if misunderstood.

He should stay out of it until all of the facts are in. That’s how he should respond. After all, they were all over him like ugly on an ape when he said the word “bomb”.

That could very well be the case.

What I want to avoid at this point in being purposely whipped into a frenzy by a lying media trying to advance the agenda of our lying government.

I don’t believe anything I see or hear in this country straight off any longer.

My position is this.

If a crime was committed here, bring charges, show me the evidence, prove it to a jury and get a conviction.

I’m not going to participate in a media trial.

It’s being willing to ask such questions that serves as the chief safeguard against the problem of mistakes or misconduct or whatever becoming even worse than it is already. We know nothing mortal is perfect. However that does not excuse not trying to make it better and better. That way, at least the deaths and sacrifices won’t be utterly in vain.

Rioting over it, plundering over it, assailing non-involved people over it, is dead wrong. However that doesn’t mean the questions should be ignored.

I think God may have put Trump here as the Solomonic voice needed to defuse the gratuitous, evil tensions that Bronco Bama has cowboyed up among the black people. Let’s pray for Trump and give him a chance.
