Fifty Trumpian days that will shake the world
The Financial Times ^ | September 18th, 2016 | Edward Luce

Posted on 09/18/2016 7:48:32 PM PDT by Mariner

The end is in sight. In 50 days we will know whether Donald Trump has pulled off the biggest upset in American history. It is a credit to the reality TV star’s populist skills that such an outcome is possible. Hillary Clinton is all that stands between the world and the Trumpian abyss.

It is a pity she has to pull this off while recovering from pneumonia. It is little short of astonishing that this close to midnight she feels obliged to launch another drive to explain to voters why she wants to be president. What exactly was the past year about? Or the past decade? As the song says, “If you don’t know me by now …”

It is safe to say that Mrs Clinton is not about to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Voters will have to make do with her campaign themes of building bridges rather than walls, and being stronger together. Laudable though such sentiments are, they are dangerously anodyne. They tell voters what Mrs Clinton is not — Donald Trump. They tell us next to nothing about what she would do.

Her success is thus predicated on Mr Trump’s indiscipline, which cannot always be relied upon (recent gaffes about disarming his opponent’s secret service detail notwithstanding). If he sticks to advice by “reaching out” to African-Americans, Hispanics and women he can take the edge off Mrs Clinton’s warnings. What then, would her campaign be left with?

The answer is worryingly vague. Next week Mrs Clinton and Mr Trump will face off in what will almost certainly be the most watched television debate in history. Mr Trump will start on low expectations. Mrs Clinton is an accomplished and well-prepared debater. That means Mr Trump’s bar for winning will be far lower.

The left is not happy they are stuck with Clinton, even though they nominated her and are even now dragging her across the finish line.

Hillary is not telling the country what she wants to do as President.

If she has a vision, people have missed it.

All people see her talking about are stupid things like birther certificate and tearing into Trump for saying off the cuff there was a bombing in New York - which turned out to be true.

She isn’t talking about things that really matter to the voters. That’s why Trump will win.

I have no intention of subscribing, paying good money to read BS at the FT, but what I saw of the excerpt causes me to wonder why no Barf Alert?

“Mrs Clinton is an accomplished and well-prepared debater. That means Mr Trump’s bar for winning will be far lower.”

One of the things I don’t understand is that ALL enemedia articles promote as a given that Hillary is expected to do great in the debates and that Trump is expected to do poorly.

I just don’t get it. Trump mopped the floor with 16 opponents in what seemed like an infinite number of debates, most with extremely hostile “moderators”, and thus Trump has tremendous debate experience. Trump also has tremendous experience in dealing with the media and tremendous experience in front of the camera in general.

Hillary has none of those things: next to no debate experience, she does nothing but hide from the media and when she does appear, she makes sure it’s in front of pre-selected sycophants, and finally, she does not have the camera time Trump has.

What does the enemedia gain by falsely promoting the notion that Hillary is expected to do well and Trump not do well, when most of the facts point to the contrary? After all, if she falls apart, they can’t exactly say that that was what was expected all along.

Does this whole thing remind anybody else of “Rocky”?

NO ONE believed he could go the distance, not even Adrean.

I never believed he could WIN until early august.

Those who knew well ahead of time are VERY insightful or political geniuses. To those people..

When all of our politicians were pandering to the illegal aliens, Trump stepped up for the citizens.

If not for Trump we would have been subjected to another amnesty vs amnesty travesty.

This one would have been the somnambulant travesty, low energy Yeb! vs comatose illary.

As the debates started, I was so tickled that JEB was getting hit so hard. I couldn't decide who I despised more, Jeb or Hilliary. I figured Trump would get bored and bow out.

But once Mike Pence got on board, it is a serious effort. Going all the way.

Trump is masterful in how he can get some of his message through the D/Soros-controlled mass media...even when they don’t want to give him any chance to communicate with the American people

but I still think Mr Trump needs, quickly, a really strong on-the-ground effort, too

if he wants the job, and I believe he does, he needs to spend some money and get a lot of ground work going FAST
(since time is running out)

in my opinion anyway

They are just laying groundwork for their falsely saying she won the debate.
