I’m a USC Trojans fan, and that’s how I deal with a certain tailback who was on the team in the late 1960’s and won a Heisman trophy. As far as I’m concerned, he’s an unperson.

Maybe that's why the disrespect for the flag is catching on seemingly nearly everywhere. As a child in the 1950s, I don't recall this kind of passion for football.

Organized sports on any level - especially college and professional - can certainly be a false god. Have you ever tried to explain that to a sports fan, however?

I try not to participate in anything related to sports these days: I don’t watch it on TV (I don’t have cable, and never watch local TV anyway, so that’s not too hard), I don’t buy jerseys or sports products, I don’t attend sporting events. I rarely read about sports. I don’t miss it at all. For some people it’s like an addiction.

That’s the way the university approached it - focusing strictly on the positive, which was real. Many here even think to curse Paterno - and actually think that makes them a good Christian. What it makes them is - a cynic.

Now if you want to criticize Michael Mann . . .

Yes, why doesn’t the University appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Michael Mann? He’s a phony and a fraud. Let’s follow the money trail and find out how he’s enriched himself on federally funded climate studies. Just like Sandusky’s victims, because of Michael Mann, the taxpayers are fucked.

It’s almost like a bunch of whiny football fans are attacking the coach that repeatedly stomped your miserable scrub team into paste.

Joe was in his 70s when events were brought to his attention. He didn’t run the school. He didn’t run the athletic dept. He didn’t even run the team. He was a coach and another coach brought to his attention something he saw the day before.

now, put yourself in his shoes. what do you do?

would you run over to the house of the accused and shoot him? hardly. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF YOU WOULD DO THAT. then what would YOU actually do?

Almost all of you, assuming you’re rational adults with a working frontal lobe, would... notify your supervisor of the report. that’s about it. you MIGHT try calling the cops, but anyone that’s ever dealt with police in the middle of an investigation can tell you how far that goes.

THAT’S IT. That’s EVERYTHING each and every one of you would ever do. Oh sure, you keyboard cowards might claim to ‘burn down the pedophiles house’... but we all know you’re just full of sh*t. besides, you’d get arrested as arson is still illegal.

And do you know what Joe Paterno did?

He did EXACTLY that. he notified his supervisor, who then notified the police.

So all you keyboard tough guys can stop spewing bullsh*t unless you’ve actually done otherwise in the real world (provide news accounts of your actions or it didn’t happen)
