Did I forget to mention that, two months later, the Soviets then attacked Finland and violently seized disputed territory?
Did I forget to mention that the “war” against Finland was so pathetically incompetent that Hitler and most German generals concluded the Soviet Union would collapse if Germany attacked the Soviet Union?
At 3.30 am on 17 September 1939, the Polish ambassador in Moscow was handed a note, in which Moscow announced that the Polish state had ceased to exist.
Initially, the Soviet Union sent in 450,000 soldiers, though by the end of September this figure had risen to one and a half million.
Poland was then caught between German Nazi forces advancing from the west and Stalin’s forces from the east.
On 28 September, Germany and the Soviet Union drew up boundaries under the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed a month before, which agreed spheres of influence within Poland, effectively snuffing out the independence the country won in 1918.
Following the Soviet invasion, around 15,000 Polish officers were deported to camps in Kozelsk, Ostashkov and Starobelsk.
Under Stalin’s decree of March 1940 the officers were executed by the NKVD security forces, and their bodies were buried in mass graves in Katyn, Kharkov and Mednoye.
Mass deportations followed to Siberia, which included, according to various estimates, from 550,000 to nearly one and a half million Poles.

A newly launched investigation into the 2010 plane crash that killed Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski has revealed evidence that the black boxes are missing recordings from the vital last seconds of the flight.
As reported by Bloomberg, investigators were appointed by Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz, who has said the crash that killed 96 people was probably an “assassination”. The jet crashed into a forest short of a runway in Smolensk, Russia.
Previous probes by both Poland and Russia, which pinned the blame for the accident mainly on pilot error, concealed facts such as engine and instrument failure as the plane approached the military airport in dense fog, experts appointed by Macierewicz said.

Ala “1984” history was re-written to portray the Soviets as our “friends and aliies” against Hitler. FDR knew all the rotten things about Stalin, but his Administration was so infiltrated by the KGB, even at the highest levels-—see Harry Hopkins, a Soviet agent-—that he was immersed in the Soviet myth.
FDR’s traitorous actions supporting the Soviet war aims , with the Lend-Lease program, the “Second Front” in Normandy and the demand for unconditional surrender, condemned 6 million Jews, untold millions of Germans and Eastern Europeans and tens of thousands of young American men to die for the Soviet cause.
