Cornell is hiring a dean of students whose job it will be to promote diversity on campus...
So far, though, the interview process isnt going particularly well for one top candidate, Vijay Pendakur...he dared to say that hed consider all students when making decisions as the dean of students.
If I say, The deans area of focus is diversity and inclusion, the unspoken thought in response often is, Oh, so hes here for only the marginalized students,' he told the crowd. So we need to undo that, because that is a deeply problematic framework. If were going to make progress, it needs to be everyones conversation.
the schools vice president for diversity of inclusion was immediately scandalized.
Id like to hear more on how that kind of approach and philosophy still puts the concerns of minority students, students of color, underrepresented students, LGBTQ-identifying students and students with disabilities at the forefront, Julia Montejo told the student newspaper.
Underrepresented students feel really afraid to speak up and oftentimes those with more privilege in the room are more likely to take up more vocal and physical space.
Pendakur made a bold attempt to recover, pointing out that a dean of students has to care for and represent an entire collegiate body, but the damage was already done. Its highly unlikely Pendakur will make it much farther in the process.
Cornell has become a premiere social justice school in the last several years, introducing classes in Advancing Social Justice as well as a campus Social Justice Program that ensures Cornells social justice warriors have a voice in campus administration and are involved in official school policy (its currently hiring a program coordinator).

Apparently “diversity” has a peculiar meaning at that University.
Sounds like he’s Indian. Indians can’t be diverse because they are too successful. (Unless he’s transgender or something.) Next candidate, please.
City Of Evil BTT
Nonsense. They believe they are the only ones who are allowed to "speak up". They do it constantly, at maximum volume, demand special forums to do so and never, ever, shut up or let any other voice be heard.
It almost has to be End Times Insanity. What else can this crap be?
Ha ,..Ha,..ha !
AN impossible job among the ‘snowflakes’ !!
How are students marginalized? When I was in college, I went to classes, I did homework, and did various activities with friends. Are these students being prevented from attending classes, doing homework, or engaging in activities?
She came back a completely changed person. Super liberal in both thinking and appearance. At our 10th reunion, people didn't even recognize her as the same person. The Leftists at Cornell did a job on her. Big lib ever since.
She later became the consumer protection agency head in Arizona for the governor at the time, Janet He/She Napolitano.
Can't help but think she ruined her life by going to Cornell.....
“Diversity” positions were never meant to promote fair treatment of all. They were created to favor non-Whites over Whites and to blame Whites for all non-Whites failures.
Perhaps the social justice warriors could explin to me why I should give a crap about their ‘special’ groups of people since I’m a target of discrimination by these people?
Did she say this with a straight face? You have to wonder.
What? You expect common sense to prevail the the world of academics?
He would have gotten the job instantly if only he said “Only minorities matter.”
A rising tide lifts all, er, I mean, red boats.
unless they have to fight each other hand to hand in Ho plaza for position they aren't any better than the students that actually pay and scholastically earned their right to be there
Geeze, the University should consider abolishing the post.
In other news, how’s the investigation into the stabbing that occurred during the diversity party at the beginning of the school year proceeding?
The investigation is “ongoing.” All those fine young BLM supporters there filming the incident and, seemingly, no witnesses. Funny about that.
