ATF Backs Off on Wetted Nitrocellulose, Smokeless Powder Production (temporarily) Uneffected
Ammoland ^ | September 1, 2016

The rumor is circulating that new federal regulations / reclassification of Wetted Nitrocellulose by ATF will put an end to domestic smokeless powder production in the U.S.

This is both true and not true.

The BATFE proposed a new regulation for the storage, transportation and documentation of “wetted nitrocellulose,” which is a precursor for manufacture of smokeless powder. This proposed regulation would make compliance so difficult and expensive that it could cut off domestic production.

However, because of industry input about the possible consequences of this proposed regulation, the BATFE has decided to withdraw it for further consideration. It could still happen, but for now it’s on hold.

One concern is that this proposal and Internet attention to it could spark a consumer run on smokeless powder and ammunition.

Demand for powder and ammo is still a couple of orders of magnitude (or more) more elastic than the supply side can accommodate. So, this could create another run on finite supplies.

Permanently unaffected! If they know what’s good for them.

So was production unaffected? Or was the policy just temporarily uneffected?

Can't really blame the bloggers, as the corporate media doesn't use copy editors or proof readers any more, either.

What is the issue? Why would they want to ban this specifically?

Fascist thinking
1) we can’t get away with banning guns
2) so we let people buy all the guns they want, and we’ll just ban the manufacture of propellant for ammunition
3) folks will just end up with a lot of expensive wall art, and they won’t be able to effectively oppose their rulers.

Exactly their thinking.

Everyone should BLOAT

Years ago they were going after primer actuated cartridges, requiring them to be treated as explosives.

That would have also affected all powder actuated tools, like Hilti and Ramset guns.

Every hardware store and lumber yard was to be affected.

They think they are so smart.

To make ammo more expensive and harder to get.
They want all our guns to be worthless as anything but a club.

“One concern is that this proposal and Internet attention to it could spark a consumer run on smokeless powder and ammunition.”

Well, the several thousand rounds I ordered a couple of days ago will arrive today from my favorite on-lline supplier in Pahrump, Nevada. This “nest of snakes” known as the BATFE needs to be shuttered. Go Donald!

Oh, noes...OMG, gasp...!

So, now we must all be good citizens and ignore this.

If we don't talk about the draconian crap from BATF (Booted Assholes That Fart), no one will go out and buy ammo.

Good one, fed boys, good one.

“...ATF’s focus is on the potential public safety risks associated with materials that can be misused or diverted to unlawful purposes.”

EVERYTHING IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE “can be misused or diverted to unlawful purposes.” That does NOT mean it should be removed from public availability.

Has there been any incidents related to safety that could warrant such a new rule? No! So, once again, they are preventing what never happened.

Why does it seem odd that an agency should promulgate laws?

Our pResident writes checks to the UN for $500,000,000 to “fight global warming,” in 3rd world countries, and that’s just the first installment, then claims he can bind us to treaties by executive decree.

We support both sides in the Syria conflagration, a war that our former sec. of state ignited along with the rest of the middle east.
Oh yeah, and she admits she was unable to differentiate between what were confidential communications and what were not. And she’s held to be completely irresponsible due to mental incapacity—or unable to form intent—while appearing to be physically incapacitated as well, yet her MSM lackey polls show her quite possibly the next WH resident.

Why should anyone be surprised at what this run-away administration does and gets away with doing, aided and abetted by lapdog journalists, who are, btw anxious to “moderate” the presidential debates?
