Quite amazing. They say it works on most cancers.

I hope they will be able to actually use it as a treatment.

Scientists might have accidentally made a huge step forward in the search for a cure for cancer

Funny how so many great strides in the advancement of medicine have been made by accident.

Yeah, I saw that too. Must not be too big a deal or a bigger deal would’ve been made by now you’d think.

They still don’t know what penicillin really is. I mean it is a mold, but what sort? It has never been found in the wild. It wafted in though an open window and was ‘discovered’ but they have never isolated it in the wild. Ever bit of penicillin we have came from that one wayward spore.

The biggest questions are whether it'll work in the human body, and if the human body can tolerate the doses needed without developing side effects,”

Like the common current cancer therapies don’t have side effects.

Chemo and radiation don’t have nasty side effects?

I remember once I was in the middle of having a cold and it went on a hiatus while I was having the stomach flu.

So they were using polio to cure brain cancer if I remember right. Now they are using malaria. Interesting, but I remember they used too strong a dose during testing and killed someone. It is miraculous though.

Not to prove you wrong but you made me curious so I looked it up. According to Kenyon.edu the original Penicillium strain is no longer used. But another site I looked at did say that the original strain was rare.

One of the things Penicillium is most famous for is the drug penicillin. It was used to create the first antibiotic. The originial strain, Penicillium notatum, was discovered in 1920 by Sir Alexander Fleming. However, it was replaced with Penicillium chrysogenum, a more productive species, which is now the species used in manufacturing penicillin.
