Bombardier hands out pink slips as part of effort to cut 7,000 workers

Bombardier handed out pink slips Friday to aerospace employees in Montreal as part of its efforts announced in February to trim 7,000 workers over two years.

The Montreal-based company declined to say how many workers were being affected by the latest layoff notices, how many cuts have already been made, or what aircraft programs are being affected.

Mark Masluch, spokesman for Bombardier business jets, said the layoffs are a continuation of the “workforce optimization” plan being implemented across the company.

The union representing machinists said the uncertainty about efforts to save jobs is creating frustration for workers. It warned last October that 10,000 Quebec aerospace jobs are at risk.

“The union representing machinists said the uncertainty about efforts to save jobs is creating frustration for workers.”

Look for the Union Label! It leads to overpriced labor that gets pink slips.

Watch the Trudeau government hand billions in corporate welfare to Bombardier.

Have you ever flown on one of their jets? It’s almost like a real airplane, but quite cramped for an average sized male.

“Watch the Trudeau government hand billions in corporate welfare to Bombardier.”

Ask me if I care what Canada does! Canada would be better off if they deported the French. Quebec has been a pimple on Canada’s butt forever.

We own three of their recreational products (BRP), 2 CanAm ATV’s and an Evinrude 2 cycle outboard motor. Very durable, very rugged and dependable.

We recently got the 2015 Evindrude, traded in our 21013 Mercury outboard. The Mercury was a complete POS compared to the Evinrude. Hard starting, difficult to idle for trolling.

Sadly Quebec is only one of many problems Canada has.

Not only that but, 50 years from now you will still be able to get parts for that Evinrude. That’s why you see so many old ones still around where as Mercurys are hard to find parts after about the 20 year mark.

Right now I have a 1970 25 HP Evinrude that still works as good as it did when it was new. Granted it was still Johnson/Evinrude when it was built.

They've always been that way.

You can bet on it. That lil pansy is far worse than his overrated daddy. Even back in high school in Vancouver, they were venerating this family and made me wanna puke.

Ok...

How many of these jobs are on the design side as the wrap up their latest model that takes the Pratt Geared Turbo-Fan?

And... Is this in anticipation of what? I could speculate more but I won't...

My heart truly aches with grief for anyone laid off.
Here in Houston are thousands of laid-off engineers and other technical personnel looking for jobs. Companies post want ads but, in reality they are merely resume-fishing without the intention to hire.

Not much information in the article as to why 7,000 workers are being cut. A simple Google of "Bombardier Mexico" provides a very strong hint of what is happening.

Google: Bombardier Mexico

The giant sucking sound continues, even from Canada.

I like the Q400. It’s about as good a commuter plane as I’ve ever ridden on. The company I retired from made a lot of parts for that one.

I have a 1958 Johnson 18 HP that’s been in the family since the 60’s. It will sit for let’s say 5 years, outside. Put fresh gas in it, prime the carb, and in about 5 pulls or so it’s running.

If it’s used daily, only a couple pulls to start. Very reliable.

They are keepers
