Ryan Lochte and three other US Olympic swimmers lied about being robbed at gunpoint to cover up a brawl they had with a gas station security guard, authorities said Thursday.

Brazilian authorities have video of a brouhaha involving American swimmers Ryan Lochte, Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen and a rent-a-cop, ABC News reported.

Unless you were on one of the FR threads where all the posters insisted that the Brazilian police were lying to cover something up. LOL.

I think the video clip that was published on a British newspaper website sealed the deal. It exposed the U.S. swimmers' timeline as false, at a bare minimum.

Makes the US look as lacking in self-discipline and ethics as we actually now are.

The State Dept urged the swimmers to cooperate with officials

Anyone else note the irony in that?

IOC should issue a fine, and prohibit them from participating in 2020 Olympics for their stupidity.

Note to these guys: leave the lying to Hillary. You’re not as good at it as she is.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. They may be great at what they do, but they are still dumb young men, basically on holiday.

But you know what? I’ll take THIS minor scandal over Palestinian b@stards torturing and murdering Israeli athletes in cold blood.

Perspective.

Just when did anyone involved tell authorities about this or file a false police report?

As I understand it, one of them told their mother and that is how it got out.

What law was broken, other than general stupidity? Wouldn’t there have to be some charge for some of those involved to be removed from a plane outbound from their 3rd world country for the sake of “answering questions” ?

Entirely possible that the swimmers broke a door in order to get into a locked bathroom. And that a security guard then confronted them and ordered them to pay for the door.

The swimmers may have viewed this as “extortion” or “robbery”.

But, it is also possible that this is the “agreed-upon” version to peacefully end a bad PR situation for Brazil.

I have no idea what happened.

Anyway, we probably won’t learn the full truth until much later (and long after everyone is out of Brazil).

As is usually the case, the result of the lying is going to be worse than if they just told the truth about the fight and accepted the consequences.

The Brazilian authorities care and Olympic Athletes do not have diplomatic immunity. That leaves the swimmers subject to Brazilian law.

I think they have ‘discipline’ I think it’s the ‘discipline’ of a big endorsement deal payday.

I honestly can’t understand the drive and total obsession with their ‘sports’ that in many cases causes them to forsake everything else. I just don’t think many of the glamor Olympians of today are anything like what came before. The only way I can describe it is elitism.
