Authorities are investigating the cause of a massive fire that raged for more than 10 hours at the St. Clair Power Plant in East China Township Thursday and Friday.

The fire broke out at the DTE plant on Recor Road at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Fire crews extinguished the blaze at about 4:45 a.m. Friday and continue to monitor the facility for rekindling.

All employees were evacuated from the building with no injuries reported.

For those like me who had no idea where this occurred here is what I found.

DTE is a Detroit, Michigan-based utility.

East China Township is about 60 miles northeast of Detroit.

News used to start with two things - date and place.

You want to talk about a dumbing down conspiracy, thereyago.

Who, what, where, when.....

Used to be, even a HS newspaper article wouldn't be published without the "4 Ws" in the first paragraph.

From what I heard the whole fuel input system was burned, possibly, likely, disabling all the plants units forever.

Thursday, August 11. About 6 PM. Just south of the city of St. Clair, Michigan. Cause unknown - I know people who work there. About 10 miles from my home.

What’s the feeling? Is it an accident or are thugs getting creative?

I agree. If the article does not contain that info the OP should describe where it is to save multiple FReepers having to look it up.

Looks like The Voice is deeply, massively ashamed
to be in Michigan and does not want anyone to know
their state.

Also, it appears the plant does not use any kind of fuel.

Probably one of those new experimental plants using
the Obama/Clinton process.

It will be very difficult to recover.

From Wikipedia: “The Saint Clair Power Plant is a major coal- and oil-fired power plant owned by Detroit Edison, a subsidiary of DTE Energy. It is located in St. Clair County, Michigan, on the west bank of St. Clair River. The plant is across M-29 from the newer Belle River Power Plant in East China, Michigan. The first four units of St. Clair were built in 1953–1954.[1] Since then, three more generating units have been added to the plant. The St. Clair Power Plant generates 1982 megawatts in total.[2] It is Detroit Edison’s second largest power producer.[3] The power plant has a large impact on the local economy, employing about 300 workers.”

If a coal dust fire , it may (or may not) have spread across several of the units. The older ones very often share a common fire room around the boilers.

Figure the loss of that building at least. The others? If in a separate buyildings - which is common as the original power plant complex is expanded, then they “might be” able to continue.

Or, if the fire were in a fuel handling tunnet and spreader, then all the plants are affected. Usually, there is a single train/barge dump area, then several conveyors and spreaders shifting the coal from the common unloading area.

Idiot wrote the story though. See, he/she/it usually just releases press releases already written. Has never written a story himself for other cities.

Yes, and it will be perfected in only ten years
if the Clinton Foundation can just come up
with another 20 trillion dollars.
