A Chinese rocket re-entered the atmosphere near California late Wednesday night around the same time many people shared video on social media of a mysterious bright object streaking across the night sky.
U.S. Strategic Command spokeswoman Julie Ziegenhorn wouldn't say if the rocket ever posed danger to people on the ground. She says the command often sees re-entries.
Ziegenhorn tells The Associated Press the Chinese CZ-7 rocket re-entered the atmosphere around 11:36 p.m. Central time. That's about the same time social media lit up with reports from Nevada, Utah and California of a small fireball streaking across the sky.
Northern California was abuzz Wednesday night with reports of a mysterious light streaking across the sky.

Does that mean we have no defenses against missiles landing on our soil?
I dont know anything on the subject, just asking
We long knew that almost all of our fireworks were Chinese.
We do have defenses. This one was inert. Weapons have to survive reentry, this one made no attempt.
Looks like a response to Hillary’s nomination.
But from who?
Thanks.
Not as good as the one deemed a ‘con trail’ back in 2009 or so.
It is also my guess that anti-ICBM weapons are used under a strict protocol. China probably advised the US of the nature of their rocket and its trajectory prior to its launch. China isn’t interested in getting dumped on by all of those ballistic missile submarines we have scattered all over the place.
Looks like a response to Hillarys nomination.

Timing kind of suggests that. Not many things happen accidentally.
Klaatu: I won’t resort to threats, Mr. Harley. I merely tell you the future of your planet is at stake should you elect Hillary as President.
If Hiliary gets elected, you better get used to seeing rockets in the sky. Ammo up.
Doubt we could survive a total Chinese and Russian combined attack. Nothing left. No defense could survive that barrage.
Shot across the bow?
That’s where MAD theory comes in. Our adversaries know or assume that we would launch a devastating counterattack as soon as we observe their missile launch. So they are deterred from a first strike. Sounds sketchy, but that is what has kept us from mutual destruction for 50+ years.
The Chinese are always good at fireworks demonstrations. Probably put on a show to celebrate their Clinton friends at the DNC, as a show of thanks for them sharing our rocket technology with China.
What kind of message is it supposed to send?
Speaking of mysterious light. The night before the 4th of July I saw 4 large orange balls come into a V formation over the local small airport with one ball missing, but it soon flew slowly and soundlessly over the area in front of the car, likely to join the others and complete the V.
Two people were in the car with me. One had ear buds in and I couldn’t get her attention to turn and look out the window. The other was driving and wouldn’t look saying that the airport has lights. I told him I have lived near enough to this airport most of my life and they aren’t their lights. Interestingly enough, though he didn’t look the last orange soundless light came over our front view out the window and he clearly saw it as it slowly moved in front of his. He said he has never seen anything like it and didn’t know what it was.
It was over an airport and it is illegal to fly anything other than planes near there or do lasers. Does anyone know what they were?
