There is a small coterie of senior soldiers who do have a clue, one of which may be Michael Flynn, a member Donald Trump’s kitchen cabinet or national security brain trust.

Flynn originally caught the spotlight as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency where he stepped on one of those political correctness landmines. Flynn believes the Islamist menace, as a priority, is more significant than the Russian, Chinese, or Korean threats.

Indeed, Flynn is one of the few professional intelligence officers to cut through the fog of Obama era apologetics and tighten the focus on the war we are fighting, not wars we might fight.

There are also a large "coterie" of former military out here in the wilds that also have a clue. Sadly, today, it appears, that the military is being pushed to be kinder and gentler and more enviro friendly. When the hell did we get turned around like this? The military is supposed to freakin' WIN against the enemies. Instead, we have Naval Academy cadets being "taught" that glow-bull discombobulation is a huge threat and sea level rise is going to inundate where most Naval bases are currently located. WTH? Hopefully, Gen. Flynn can help turn this around while people like betray-us and mac crystal are out there working for the anti 2nd crowd.

Flynn sat next to Putin at a banquet in December. He is a paid spokesperson on RT, which is a state owned Russian TV channel that transmits Russian propaganda. He is serving the interests of Russia, which makes it questionable whether Trump should have him as an advisor.

The author praises Flynn for the ability to ...tighten the focus on the war we are fighting, not wars we might fight..

Fortunately, most competent military commanders recognize that "the wars we might fight" deserve appropriate attention; occasionally more attention than the war one presently fights.

The potential for a Japanese Sunday attack on Pearl Harbor was identified years in advance and occupied a significant role in the U.S. military's war planning.

My personal opinion combined with facts I recently learned about Flynn. I have been feeling for quite a while that although we do definitely have some interests in common with Russia at this time, it is obviously crazy to think that the Russian government are our friends in general or to overlook the many ways in which their system and interests are antithetical to ours.

Flynn admits that he gave a speech at the RT dinner where he sat next to Putin although he denies being "paid by the Russians". Yet he admits that he was paid for the speech. So where did the money come from? Apparently he has also appeared on RT as an analyst on a "semi-regular basis" and it is normal for such analysts to be paid. Flynn doesn't deny that RT is a propaganda arm of the Russian government.

It just seems unseemly to me that someone who was very high up in the US intelligence establishment is now on such good terms with a country which has not entirely eliminated the characteristics of an "evil empire". Maybe Flynn even thinks that he is doing the right thing but the fact is that he is being used by the Russians to serve their interests.

Flynn also says that he was "allowed" to make the speech and his intention was to pressure the Russians regarding Iran. But who "allowed" him? It seems unlikely that it was the Obama administration, since he has been a vocal critic. So maybe he meant that the Russians allowed him to give the speech. But that brings up the question of whether it is proper and legal for him to conduct foreign policy as a private citizen.

It is common knowledge that Russia pays people to exert influence on the Internet and it is obvious that this has even sometimes affected FR. It is really surprising to me how many people are OK with this and are just totally unquestioning of the wisdom of getting into bed with Russia.

I admit that I already thought that Flynn seemed a little weird before I heard this more recent news about RT, etc.
