Coloradans will need whatever extra taxes they get for medical expenses for the treatment of addicts down the road.
And a 100 million in costs to the damage to people using, businesses, crime and lost futures for a start.
But drugs are at the heart of the Libertarian wet dream.
Never, the local recreational addicts would buy once legally and then stuff cheaper non-taxed street drugs into the legal bottles to evade the rule of law and all taxation.
Recreational drug users were never honorable people, they are addicted people.
The vast majority of Americans have tired of the War on Pot (75% of the War on Drugs).
These Americans will make pot legal in all 50 states.
I recently had a conversation with someone who swore that Colorado is swimming in money due to the massive windfall from marijuana.
It’s cute that they believe that.
Ping for your interest.
The biggest cost to Colorado is that the type of people who love pot are also the type of people that use welfare.
Sure, some professional types smoke pot, I know a few, but overall the massive homeless, mentally ill, and lower class of people are moving into Colorado.
But drug dealers make a fortune sell illegal drugs. Can’t the State make a little fortune by engaging in the same trade?
Maybe it is in their acquisition and distribution channels, sales methods, and collection efforts. Maybe the State should start issuing large caliber weapons to the sales staff and set up distribution center around schools. Maybe the state should start fire bombing some of the local competitors (bars, health food stores, etc.) to get their point across.
1%. That means everyone is still buying the cheap stuff off the street. Ha, serves them right.
It just seems like so many Americans don’t care about what happens to this country.
It’s like they’re stoned or something.
There’s a cause-and-effect in there somewhere.
Since government is involved, it is no wonder the state is not realizing what it thinks it should from MJ taxes. I doubt it will be long before the cost of administration out weighs the tax revenue garnered from legalization.
Just look at what happened to Off Track Betting in NY. When legalized horse betting was going broke, it instituted a 5% surcharge on all winnings. Now, even with the surcharge, it is struggling to keep its head above water.
Oddly, illegal bookmakers still prosper.
Once government and politicians are involved, abandon all hope.
47% of the population will not do any research on political candidates or examine the past record of political candidates, but will just go into the voting booth and pull the switch for anyone with a “(D)” behind their name.

I didn’t vote for it for the tax revenues.
Usually the leftists come up with a big number then spend it all before the money starts “pouring” in.
Typical modus operandi for those freaks.
Of course always with “unexpected” results...
That's called being a Progressive.
