Tim Tebow Will Speak at the Republican National Convention

Football star Tim Tebow will have a speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week, The New York Times reported. Perhaps the most famous open Christian in sports will be addressing the convention likely to nominate Donald Trump.

Tebow has toyed with politics in the past, even hinting to Fox News that he is open to running for political office. His popularity among Republicans led Public Policy Polling to still include him in a poll of favorite quarterbacks, even though he hasn't played in the NFL for 3 years. He ranked as the fifth most popular QB, and the second most popular among Republicans (16 percent), second only to Peyton Manning (20 percent).

Tim Tebow Gets His Political Opening

The 28-year-old retired NFL quarterback and winner of the Heisman Trophy, known for his victories with the University of Florida Gators and with the Denver Broncos, is immensely popular, but he hasn't landed a job in the NFL recently. When Tebow's representative in Congress, Ander Crenshaw, announced his retirement in April, it seemed the football star might jump in that race. He did not, but this move to speak at the RNC might open the door for it later on.

Twitter went crazy with the news, sending Tim Tebow to the top national trend.

GOP: We have Tim Tebow speaking at the convention.
Dems: Well we have a woman that faked being a Native American as our speaker. Top that.— Markeece Young (@YoungBLKRepub) July 14, 2016

Some were less than happy.

So, so disappointed in Tim Tebow. https://t.co/L4VgLbfY0o— Ashley Ross (@Ashbrookeross) July 14, 2016

Others mocked Tebow's open Christian faith. By the way, Tebow does not use his public prayer to say he is holier than others, but to humbly submit his football performances to God. Jesus was condemning the Pharisees -- religious leaders in Israel -- with this quote, and Tebow is not lording his faith over others in the way that they did.

This is pretty hilarious.

Other surprising names? Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, will also speak, as will Pat Smith, mother of a Navy SEAL killed in Benghazi. Professional golfer Natalie Gulbis will also speak.

Tebow!!! Ended up being a good move getting Manning after all. Oh well.

He’s meant for bigger things.

I remember when he was with the Broncos and he took a special needs girl to the Jr. Prom, that was a wish she had and he made it come true...

You can’t find a lot of people like Tim Tebow...and thank you Mr. Trump for this occasion to hear him...

>>What do you have against Tim Tebow?<<

Nothing against him, just nothing for him.

He failed at his chosen sport. He is a great witness for Christ but so are so many others who are more accomplished.

And Moses could have been an Egyptian big shot too, if he had wanted.

1 Cor 1:26ff
26For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29so that no man may boast before God. 30But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.”

Tebow issued a statement saying he is not speaking at the convention.

You know what? I take anything from the Hill with a grain of salt, the same as I do with Politico

Tebow calls news of him speaking at the convo a “rumor”. Seems to suggest he’s not.

Was he ever speaking?
Or did he drop out?
.....like he did a couple years ago at Pastor Jeffress church.

Who floated his name?

I have mixed emotions about Tebow....

....he has been a positive beacon for many years.....and role model

....I just hope he stays on that path and doesn’t let anyone, like ESPN influence him.

That’s my concern

I have noticed that many Americans loathe Tim Tebow, even resent him and delight in the way he has been given the shaft so often in sports.
