There is one less dangerous and reckless driver on the nations roadways thanks to the efforts of Nevada resident Brandon Francis. Francis earned the medal of bravery award for the week, by executing a complete armed citizens arrest of an alleged hit and run driver Monday night, after a pedestrian was struck in Las Vegas. A bystander caught the full takedown on video.
According to reports, the driver hit a pedestrian with a vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. Francis immediately blocked the suspects escape path and jumped out of his vehicle with a firearm drawn. He was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived.
The driver, Matthew Shaykin, is expected to face criminal charges. The victim suffered multiple broken bones, but hospital officials believe that the injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
was it raciss?
Kudos and all, but as a CCWr, I’m really hesitant to draw my weapon unless my personal life is in imminent danger. I might follow a hit and run driver while dialing 911, but I’m not going to execute an arrest. Too much could go wrong.
My attempt at "spelling" Gomer's accent. Hehehe. d;^)
Good job.
The potential for a law suit against the CCW guy could appear on the horizon. Possibly even a brandishing charge. Not what I would have done. Looks like the CCW carrier might be/probably is covered under NV stautes.

Yep. Unless you see this person murder a cop, escape from a prison/jail, is still mowing people down, AND CAN PROVE that he/she is just too dangerous to let go......then let them go.
Too much of a chance of a young cop , off duty (or another CCW) , could just as well draw down and kill you for doing the right thing. You'll be dead (or worse) and the cop will go home.
Wasn’t there a leftist ahole saying what’s a good guy with a gun going to do in all these situations?
Well there’s your answer
Where is the video link?
Some suggestions:
Carry a second set of credentials in off-side rear pocket (depending on local legal) to display if stuck in a cover situation.
As soon as is practical, get the pistol back into a holster and credentials out.
Call 911 (DB earring needed for this as both hands free is better) and describe location, yourself as credentialed carrier (know your permit number?), the situation, and what you are wearing. Depending on response time it might get to responding officers.
ALWAYS do exactly what the responding officer tells you to do. If that is to lie down right next to the fellow being covered.....get comfy.
Suggestions only, YMMV
KYPD
Still not seeing it. Must me on my end.
Oh well. Thanks
Agree. I was not able to watch the video, but it still odd when when someone takes a risk and does something good in a dangerous situation, most of the comments are about what the good Samaritan did wrong and what his punishment will be.
That’s a bit alarming.
Hmm, what’s wrong with getting a photo of the driver’s car and license plate and turning it over to the police?
I did not think it was legal to use a carry weapon to retain a fleeing suspect. I thought a gun could only be deployed to prevent a deadly threat to yourself or to those around you or to engage an active shooter. I guess every state’s laws are different. Kudos to the guy for bagging a scumbag, I just thought it was not allowed within the scope of CCW laws.
I am so confused.

Yes. Just get a picture of the car or license. The police will find him and the hit and run will be easier to prove.
Then how do you prove he was driving. All he has to do is dump the truck and call 911 and say his truck was stolen in the past hour but he cant be sure when, but it was in the driveway an hour ago officer.
If you don’t get a photo of his face, you cant orove he was the driver.
Do you think the guy did the right thing here? If not, how should he have handled it?
