After all that's happened, Trump fares no worse with Hispanic voters than Romney or McCain
Washington Examiner ^ | 11 Jul 2016 | Byron York

How many bad moments has Donald Trump had with Hispanic voters? From Mexican rapists to build-a-wall to Judge Gonzalo Curiel, many Republican insiders view Trump as a one-man wrecking crew, a disaster of unprecedented proportions, when it it comes to the GOP's outreach to Latinos.

Perhaps. But right now, after all the problems Trump has had with Hispanic voters, a new poll shows him performing at roughly the recent Republican norm — and no worse than the last two GOP presidential nominees.

A new poll from Pew Research Center found Hillary Clinton with a whopping 42-point lead over Trump among Hispanic registered voters, 66 percent to 24 percent. It's a grim number for Republicans — but actually a little less than the 48-point lead Barack Obama had over Mitt Romney in Pew polling from October 2012, and also less than the 43-point lead Obama had over comprehensive immigration reform champion John McCain in July 2008.

Romney went on to lose to Obama by 44 points (71 percent to 27 percent) among Hispanic voters in 2012, and McCain lost by 36 points (67 percent to 31 percent) among Hispanics in 2008.

Among the bilingual and Spanish-dominant group, Clinton has a huge lead, 80 percent to 11 percent. Among the English-dominant group, it's a genuinely close race — 48 percent for Clinton to 41 percent for Trump. After all that has happened, Trump polls as well or better with English-dominant Hispanic voters than with the electorate as a whole.................Interesting finding!

I held my nose and voted for them both. Even McCain, whom I find to be a particularly loathsome person.

So I have little sympathy watching the Beltway Republicans throw hissy-fits and behave like emotionally arrested 13 year olds.

Trump is your nominee. He won that fair and square. So man-up and support him.

“From Mexican rapists..”

Mexican rapists don’t vote.

These pundits really don’t have a clue.

In his own words, this writer is a moron. He says Trump is on even keel, with McCain and Romney but continues to whine about Trump’s problems with Latinos. Which is it?

So here is what I don’t get.....
The very same polls that reported Trump in the lead through the primaries (all the major polls) we all supported through and through, trumpeted, used to down cast our opposition in the primaries. Now the very same polls (damn near all of them) we snidely push aside, discredit and go out of our way to toss aside all show the exact same picture (Trump is down in all major polls just not a few)....

I think we all need to wake up to this reality and push our support. On the other side Trump is in a deep hole and fix the messaging.

We need to face it, our cantidate along with Hillary has strong negatives. Face it our cantidate is down.

English is a requirement for citizenship, citizenship is a requirement for voting.
Illegal aliens would oppose Trump.
Citizens of every ethnicity want the illegal alien inundation stopped.

You’re correct and the “kill the messenger” meme is old, tired and flawed logic.
The polls are more often than not very close to the the reality on the street. They aren’t perfect or exact but to ignore them based on desired outcome is the very definition of whistling past the graveyard.
I’ll always fight as if we’re 10 points down, regardless of polls.

I think both views are correct.

McCain and Romney were disasters when it cane to Hispanic voters. If Trump is equal to them he will be a disaster too. The disaster gets a little more important each election as the Hispanic percentage of the total electorate goes up a point or so each election.

In our town we are about 40 % Hispanic, but the students in our schools are about 70 % Hispanic. That’s just because the Anglos as a group are much older and have much fewer kids.

If the Republican Party keeps performing at 30 % with the Hispanic vote it will eventually be overwhelmed by it.

(Trump is down in all major polls just not a few)....

Rasmussen (one of the few pollsters I trust) has Trump +2. He also has Trump +20 among Independents. Funny thing...before the Comey revelations and subsequent testimony, polls seemed to be coming out daily with much fanfare from the media. Now all I hear are crickets.

You are wrong. Hispanics only comprised 10% of the 2012 presidential election vote. It is the white liberals that are the problem and have always been the problem.

RCP, USA Today, Fox, Quinnipiac, NBC, ABC, CBS, ARG, Farleigh Dickinson, Economist, Reuters.

We can’t deny what is right in front of us not discredit because it is inconvenient. He is down plain and simple. What are we to do?

Perhaps you are better than me in finding this info but here is what I found:

7/10 Rasmussen Trump +2
7/8 RCP Trump +2
7/5 USA Today Clinton +5
6/29 Fox Clinton +6
6/29 Qunnipiac +2

I couldn't find many of the others that were recent which I think is because the numbers don't look good for her after Comey, and Dallas. The other reason I like Rasmussen is his methodology is transparent.

And considering that Trump is positioned to do 10 POINTS BETTER with white voters, I’d say that this has all the marks of a BLOWOUT, and not for Hillary.
