CLEVELAND (Reuters) - Cleveland police on Friday tightened their security plan for the Republican National Convention after the deadly shootings of police officers in Dallas, increasing surveillance and intelligence operations just 10 days before the convention.
Other police departments across the country required officers to patrol in pairs rather than alone following the ambush in Dallas, the deadliest day for police in the United States since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.
In Cleveland, the attack raised another potential threat during the July 18-21 convention, when Donald Trump is expected to receive the Republican nomination for president.
The police officers' labor union, rank-and-file cops and some outside experts had already questioned Cleveland's preparedness for the convention with the city's police under federal supervision over use of force.
Ten days before the event, Cleveland was still training police officers for duty at the convention, which is expected to draw 50,000 visitors as well as clamorous protests and crown the most contentious presidential candidate in memory.
Rather than a security team reinforced by the country's largest police departments as it hoped, the city has cobbled together 3,000 officers, mostly from state agencies, who will use borrowed and rented equipment.

He needs at least a full battalion of National Guard standing by on the outskirts of town.
BLM and the rest of the Communist Front among us are going to try to burn Cleveland to the ground and kill as many as they can.

I think the reason we are seeing all of these things is to basically threaten people into not electing Trump. These folks are essentially holding the country hostage.

Yesterday, instead of being in the city offering state assistance for the endeavor, he was at a dinner in a south-side restaurant announcing that a massive bridge upgrade was starting early, which will hand a fortune to the construction companies that fund his campaigns. PS: Cities and towns are starving while billions of dollars are sitting in the state treasury waiting for outstretched hands to be filled with it.
I'll disagree about Cleveland's readiness. The city did real well with two days notice handling well over a million folks who went downtown for the Cavs celebration. It looks like they have a plan that separates the convention and adjacent buildings and streets from anyone not connected with the convention.
Fingers crossed. Cleveland has put its heart and soul into successfully hosting the convention. Everyone involved has really gone all-out to be an impressive host city.
I question Kasich’s motivation and intention to keep the peace. He is a notable anti-trump holdout and does not intend to be at the convention. If the police lines are breached and there is extensive rioting and assaults in the convention that disrupt the proceedings, he will blame Trump and demand that the GOPe make another choice or he will support Hillary.
I would imagine more than just cities. Probably anywhere there is this Anti-American sentiment.

Let's hope they know and plan for the difference between crowd control of rowdy protesters...which is fully in the American tradition...and the tactical combat situations they are likely to be confronted with.
They need to plan for both and on a large scale.
I think you pretty much nailed it. I would add at least a 100 well trained canines and a couple of dozen water cannons and lots of teargas. The riots to come are well funded and have been in planning for months.
Violent domestic terrorist protestors should be dealt with under a “deadly force authorized” policy.

If 1 of 100 was shot dead in the street for breaking windows and burning things, all of that activity would stop.
However, absent vandalism and/or violence I don't support shooting them.
