Donald Trump can lay 'Stargate' to rest -- assuming he wants to

Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign never recovered ...

The incident has become a case study not only in watching one’s words (and being nice to your waiters), but in spin control. Hammered by the media and the Democrats for sounding elitist and insulting half the country, Romney first blamed the listeners, saying they had misheard what he intended as innocuous demographic analysis. Later, as the transcripts of the video made clear that he said what everyone thought he said, Romney fell back on the classic dodge that his remarks had been taken “out of context.”

A lot went wrong for Romney that year, and the remarks weren’t the only reason independent voters felt that Romney cared more about Wall Street than Main Street. But some regard the incident as a classic case study in bungled PR. Lanny Davis, the Clinton White House lawyer and an author of a book on crisis management, has suggested what Romney ought to have said: “You know, that was a stupid mistake and I didn’t mean it – of course those 47 percent are composed of a variety of voters who have many reasons for not being for me not related to government, and I want to apologize to them for my mistake.”

Had Romney admitted his gaffe, wrote Davis, “the 47 percent issue would have gone away almost instantly.” Davis’ rule: “Tell it all, tell it early, tell it yourself.”

It’s probably safe to assume that Donald Trump hasn’t read Davis’ book....

The current brouhaha started when critics noticed how a tweet from Trump's campaign lambasting Hillary Clinton as the “most corrupt candidate ever” featured a six-pointed star and a pile of money....

More unsolicited advice from the JTA. Here's better advice. The Dems are desperate and inventing phony issues in their desperation. Ignore them. Bring Paul Ryan down.

And did anyone get upset when Disney used the same star?

Just anything to tear Trump down, ‘herself’ little minions trying to be important...

It was a star, like a cops badge or something. Other media have used the same symbol and not tied to Jews. It’s a stretch.

Romney had every right to say what he said.

The Trump issue is totally phony and I’m sick of bowing down to phony issues.

It took a while to realize “Stargate” refers to last week’s scandal and isn’t the movie Donald was supposed to be talking about this week.

My advice to Trump is to NEVER apologize when the MSM tries to make a mountain out of a mole hill. .

Stargate? Trump shouldn’t have suggested she is an evil space alien lizard wearing an ugly human suit.

You sure it’s not the TV series that the Sci Fi Channel regularly used to air (do they still)? It’s certainly analogous to this non-scandal. People keep accidentally falling into this trans-dimensional thingy and ending up in unexpected places, far from the context of their lives.

I would not give a rat’s azz if Trump had used a swastika instead of a star. Even though swastika is a sacred symbol in my religion for 4000+ years, and you will see it displayed in over 10,000 Hindu Temples.

But that's an accurate description!

I really don’t believe Romney’s initial statement hurt him beyond the moment. When he tried to smooth it or explain it he sank himself. Add that to the non performance in the last debate and he was a can’t win from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. The first was stupidity at play. The second was give up and fall to the mat before the other guy hits you because it might hurt a little.

Well I have found one picture of Hillary speaking at Davos where somehow her eyes have a peculiar glow. Like a Goa’uld.

He said what it is. If he continues to explain he is dead because the explanation brings a five second flare into a fourth of July fireworks display.

“Stargate” is a steaming pile of illogical bull invented by a dishonest media to dupe irrational, easily led people who are terrified of being thought bigoted, whether there’s any basis for it or not. The worst thing that Trump could do would be to validate this sort of illegitimate 1984 style thought and speech policing by showing himself to be weak and apologizing when he did no wrong. Trump, fortunately, is not weak, so he will never do that.

when a politician makes a mistake - they should admit it and move on. However NEVER allow your enemies to prod you into apologizing for a fictional mistake that doesn’t exit.

Two things I never heard anyone say about the 47%: 1. Is it true? That is, is 47% of the population takers? and 2. Is it a good thing that the USA has so many tit-suckers?
