Public Health: So let's get this straight. The Senate votes to approve a $1.1 billion bill to fight Zika by a 52 to 48 margin. But since the Democrats filibustered the bill, that wasn't enough to get it to the floor for a vote. And we're supposed to believe this is the Republicans' fault?

Um... non sequitur much?
Birth control does not stop mosquito bites. Heck, it doesn't even stop sexually transmitted diseases. So, what is the rationale for funneling Zika funds to birth control?
And even if birth control did do all of that, PP is not in the business of birth control, but of abortion. So there is *no* rationale for funneling funds to PP.
The bill is a travesty that results in death of the most innocent life.
The bill should have been clean, on both sides of the aisle.
Washington is killing off our country. Daily.

I haven’t even read the article, but some forms of birth control can limit some STDs and reportedly men who contract Zika can pass it on to their sexual partners.
So I can see the angle they’d possibly be coming from.
The first mistake in talking about something a Democrat politician (or GOPe one for that matter) says or proposes about something is in thinking there is some ‘rationale’ for it in the first place. :0)
The only form of birth control that has any effect on STD transmission is condoms, and you can buy those anywhere. They are usually placed next to the feminine products, and they are fairly cheap.
So not even that is a justification for spending money earmarked for Zika on birth control.
Quite true!
Rationale has become a foreign word ... along with LOGIC and HONESTY
Actually the only form of birth control that has any effect on STD transmission is.....abstinence
Agreed......tagging things to bills may be du rigor in congress but it smells of rabid radical politics and/or Pork.
Nothing in an infectious mosquito bill should have ANYTHING to do with Planned parenthood.
The Zika bill is filled with more pork than a rib roast.
Right, but the simple truth is that condoms can often be got from PP free or at low cost.
What makes you say that? My understanding is that condoms have been shown to reduce transmission.
Most of the commentators on FreeRepublic are missing the point. We think birth control, they think abortion. In their minds, abortion is birth control, since it is just a blob of stuff in the womb.
Right wing crazies think it is a person. Most left wing nut jobs believe it isn’t a person til it can vote for a Democrat.
I was just replying to the word.....only
But I guess abstinence is an antiquated idea in today’s world
I am ashamed for my state of Florida that we keep putting that old senile goat Nelson back in office like clockwork....
I get his email blasts and they are some of the stupidest things I have ever read....
His disconnect from reality on this issue isn’t really surprising....
I would bet the bill only addresses Zika in the title.
And just what could the feds do to stop this disease?
Why would they be concerned about Zika, while their boss is importing TB, Cholera and other diseases carried by illegal aliens? And what diseases are the muslims bringing in?
Okay—fair enough!
