Taxes on Consumption are always least burdensome, because they are least felt, and are borne too by those who are both willing and able to pay them; that of all taxes on consumption, those on foriegn commerce are most compatible with the genius of policy of the states.
James Madison, Address to the States, April 25th, 1783
And some will say Trump has no clue? Really?
The reluctant GOP-E'ers who resist "the People's" vote which gave them Trump seem to be exhibiting an intense mistrust of the judgment of citizens ("the People")--a curious attitude for those who, one might think, being the "real conservatives" who should be most familiar with the writings and speeches of America's Founders.
After all, those Founders and Framers of the 1787 Constitution relied on the ratification process in the States (voters), and any future Amendment to that Constitution, by the Constitution's own provision, still requires the assent of "the People."
"I am not among those who fear the people. They...are our dependence for continued freedom. And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds...our people...must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they (the British) now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers....This example reads to us the salutary lesson that private fortunes are destroyed by public, as well as by private extravagance. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from the principle in one instance, becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering. Then begins, indeed, the 'bellum omnium in omnia,' which some philosophers...have mistaken for the natural, instead of the abusive, state of man. And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." - Thomas JeffersonIn 2016, "the People," having watched their elected so-called "conservative" Republican leaders fail miserably at even slowing the oppressive "progressive" "train" of "wretchedness and oppression."
"The People" who Justice Story called "the only KEEPERS of the Constitution" see the so-called "conservatives" they elected betray them, and they have responded with an outright rejection, county by county, in most of the states won by Trump.
It is time now for those GOP leaders the voters rejected in the Primaries to decide whether they will turn over the Executive Branch to a self-described "progressive" who promises to double down on the Obama agenda,
O.K. O.K. You convinced me. Trump isn’t “conservative enough.”
So I won’t vote for him in the general election. Just like you people didn’t vote for McCain in 2008 or Romney in 2012 because THEY weren’t “conservative enough.”
So what if the next President gets to pick possibly five SCOTUS judges.
We are much better off if Hillary is there to do it, because Trump isn’t “conservative enough.”
Even the term A-Hole is inadequate to describe people like George Will, Mark Levin and other purist conservatives who persistently attack TRUMP instead of HILLARY, the DEMOCRATS and the DAMN RINOs like Paul Ryan who helped create the mess we are in now!
your misunderstanding is exceeded only buy your sanctimonious outlook
This presidential election is not about conservatism. To be sure there are conservative elements but a die hard, my view or the hiway, puritanical conservative analysis is going to leave you coming up very short.
The anti left America has left you behind. The die hard conservative was rejected. Donald Trump was the candidate with the most votes.
Your december 2015 views are no longer valid for this election. That’s just the reality
You can’t argue about the features and color of a car if the thing won’t even start or run.
We’re at the ‘start and run’ problem, hence Trump.
Trump is far more Conservative and also FAR MORE ELECTABLE, than any of the POS RINOS he ran against in the primaries! He is also the ONLY GOPer, in recent history, who has actually berated the Clintons and talked about their corruption !
you re correct about trump
Thanks; I usually am correct. :-)
Of all the most ignorant of replies ever posted on these forums, yours ranks as the ultimate.
You are real dumb. You are a coward.
Absolutely. The mindless worthless replies to this post reminds one of what Jefferson said.
Trump is as conservative as Ronald Reagan.
You no doubt have noted Trumps mention of the father of our nation in the last couple speeches he has given.
Yet we still see the ignorance of some on this site. But like Jefferson said...
TTY.
Have not, nor ever have, compared him to anyone. You need to visit a head shrink or return to some sort of schooling.
Mindless thoughtless people like you should not be allowed to vote. You contaminate the system with your selfish indignation.
Unreal isnt it? They could not have seen the point if they would have been dragged into it.
Trump is for tarrifs, the founders believed that tarrifs would, and should, fund the federal government.
It is called, making commerce regular. Or as it says, regulate commerce. “3: To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;”
OK. He’s off the list. Have a nice day.
Boy the Cruz bots are out in full force tonight on this site IGNORE THEM!!!!
I’m not thrilled with Cruz either.
You look like that fat, obnoxious guy yelling this carp, don't you! ;^)
