BS. Another attempt to destroy American education!
(Pretty successful so far, don’t you think?)
Common Core gives aid and comfort to the enemy.
Forget the brainwashing. Go right to the logical way to perform math functions.
So what does 2 + 2 equal?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Not counting notable private-school exceptions, American public school students have been taught erroneous, incomplete, and/or bogus information in Social Studies, History, Science, Language Arts, and even the supposedly-incorruptible Mathematics.
Doom has been hanging over American schools ever since Truth was despised and removed from academic endeavors.
But...you have your football and basketball programs still standing.
2 + 2 = 4 is the easiest and most logical method. Of course, logic, reason, and rationailty are all foreign terms to the Common Core progressives who don’t want the children to engage in that type of thinking. No they want them to follow the procedural method outlined by the gubmint so hey will learn to say “yes, Master” without question.
"In the distant future, humans live in a computer-aided society and have forgotten the fundamentals of mathematics, including even the rudimentary skill of counting. The Terrestrial Federation is at war with Deneb, and the war is conducted by long-range weapons controlled by computers which are expensive and hard to replace. Myron Aub, a low grade Technician, discovers how to reverse-engineer the principles of pencil-and-paper arithmetic from computersa development which is later dubbed "Graphitics". The discovery is appropriated by the military establishment, who use it to re-invent their understanding of mathematics. They also plan to replace their computer-operated ships with lower cost, more expendable (in their opinion) manned ships to continue the war."
Look,if we don’t continue to dumb down the masses, especially in Mathematics, they might wake up one day and realize we have enslaved them in perpetual debt to pay for our wants. Hell they might even realize that the DEBT can NEVER BE PAID, which means they are by definition “Economic Slaves”. They might revolt if they learned to count
We can’t have that, now can we.
The problem with the common core approach is that it is busy teach concepts I.e. mathematics instead of teaching arithmetic. Numeration proficiency comes from practice. If any one cares to learn the theory the can take those classes at a higher level
Children of elementary school age don’t and shouldn’t care that 15 can be grouped as 3 sets of 5 or 5 sets of 3. They should know how to do arithmetic. Add subtract multiply and divide correctly and without a calculator.
None of this common core crap is taught at elementary level anywhere else in the world
We put a man on the moon almost 50 years ago using the ‘old’ math, slide rules, and huge cumbersome computers.
Common Core clearly is not necessary, much less desirable.
Have any of you even TRIED watching a YouTube video advocating for the new math curriculum?
Eneryone knows 2+2=6 (for large values of 2 as 2 approaches 3).
Anyone pushing Common Crap should be eliminated in a slow, painful manner befitting a low IQ marshmallow major.
We will be awaiting such slime following CW-II.
With smiles on our faces.
Common Core math is not difficult. It is baffling why CC introduces Algebra concepts to first graders, but children can learn it if their teacher can learn how to teach it. The old fashioned way is easier. And children can still solve problems the old fashioned way. We had a few weeks of unhappiness with our then first grader because the CC method was so confusing and convoluted for a first grader who could solve problems the old fashioned way with no difficulty. However, he soon mastered the algebra concepts that were foisted upon them. Our other elementary children had no issues. One had to correct her teacher repeatedly, I have been told. That teacher was moved to a lower grade level. Anywho, my observations of CC is that the same students who excelled before the introduction of CC are the same students who excel now. Children who fell behind before are falling further behind. Most teacher’s aides/paraprofessionals cannot do algebra. That is a problem. A good portion of certified teachers cannot do algebra. That is a bigger problem. The aides are there to help the slower students. But if they cannot do math, then how can they teach complicated concepts?
When I was younger and still had some usable Brain Cells, I was able to figure out most Math problems in my head. Can’t describe it, I just looked at the Problem and “bingo”.
Because of that, I always got the “show your work” comment from the Teacher. The correct answer wasn’t the issue, it’s how you arrived at the solution.
Now that I’m a old guy with ten years worth of Chemotherapy under my belt, I am running neck and neck with Barbara Boxer on the intelligence meter. #;^)
Mathematical equivalent of teaching whole-word literacy.
