Americans Continue to Buy Guns in Record Numbers

NICS Background Checs 2015 to May 2016

In 2016, Americans continue to break records for gun sales.  While the National Instant Check System (NICS) does not track gun sales directly, the numbers are highly correlated. The numbers of NICS checks, and the increase in private firearms, have skyrocketed during the Obama administration.

The total for 2016 through the end of May is 11,698,006 instant checks. That is more than the entire year of 2007, which held the record up to that year. Thus, during the Obama years, the number of private firearm sales has doubled.  In 2015, the highest year on record, the total number of checks was 23,141,970.  That is just a hair short of double the number done in 2007.  2016 is shaping up to break the 2015 record by millions of instant checks.  In just the first five months of instant checks, the cumulative instant checks are more than half the total for all of the record breaking year of 2015.

May, 2016, has the most instant checks of all the months of May on record.  That makes 13 months in a row that have broken records for all previous years.  If the trend continues, 2016 will reach the record numbers of 2015 by the end of October, with the busy months of November and December still ahead.

It is possible, even likely, that 2016 will reach over 28 million instant checks.  The correlation between instant checks and increases of the private firearm stock is very close to .6 firearms for each instant check.  That is because every used firearm sold through a dealer requires an instant check.  Those do not add firearms to the private stock; they already have been counted.

Now, with Hillary, Obama, Bernie, and all the MSM shouting, demanding more infringements on the Second Amendment, sales will continue to climb exponentially.

A cousin purchased an AR15 clone the other day. No extra mags or ammo... just the rifle.

All I know is that if the economy was better, there would have been two more NICS checks.

Americans got a taste of tyranny from Obama. When he started wanting to take their guns they knew he was going for the jugular.

Sales of modern sport rifles have been down a little lately.
I’m sure Ruger, S&W, Colt, DPM, Core, Sig, Windham and all the others appreciate props from the ‘rats.
And the country’s #1 Gun Salesman too, of course.

We remember how well the AWB actually worked. Or, didn’t.

Bans coming on pressure cookers, sharp objects, gas cans, and assault automobiles?

The gun manufacturers should give Barry a lifetime achievement award for being the best marketing tool there has ever been for the industry.

I'd like to note 2007 is the year of the Democrats ascension to power. They took control of Congress that year thanks to the lousy job the spend-like-drunken-sailors, or might-as-well-have-been-Democrats Republicans did.

Of course the Democrats were on the job with their gun control push from the git-go.

It’s a done deal. Just have to find the time to get over there and pick it up. Working 12 hour shifts.

I might buy a Beretta.
My husband had one and he taught me to shoot with one. I liked it. I practiced on a target of binLaden's face. :o)

I am female and, though I am tall I have small hands (and feet), so the Beretta might suit me better.

I learned to shoot with BOTH hands, repeatedly, ten shots. My left hand is just as strong for shooting as my right hand.

Don’t forget to take a look at the Glock 19. A great all-around pistol at a great price.

You can count me among them soon enough. This latest act of love by the savages spooked me enough that I’m taking a concealed carry class next weekend and hope to investigate buying my first handgun shortly afterward.

Brief aside: I remember a few years ago the NRA got in hot water by endorsing liberals like Harry Reid. Gun Owners of America sprung up as an alternative. Did the NRA clean up its act since then?

Heading to Cabela’s this weekend to just ‘look around’ ... anyone’s thoughts on the Ruger Mini30?

A ringing endorsement of Trump last month. The NRA is far more patriotic than the traitorous scum in the GOP.

Can’t go wrong with a Glock 19 that’s for sure.

You are 100% correct. Hey, I might buy BOTH. The Glock is a GREAT weapon!
Thank you for the reminder.
