FRESNO
Touching down in Fresno one week ago, Donald Trump offered a standard Republican critique of Californias water shortage that it is, as legions of roadside banners here proclaim, the man-made result of environmental policies restricting water flows.
Then he barreled further, declaring there is no drought.
But if exaggeration is Trumps style, Hillary Clintons would appear to be avoidance.
The Democratic presidential frontrunner, campaigning in Fresno on Saturday, localized her longstanding criticism of Trumps plan to deport undocumented immigrants living in the United States, pledging to make sure that 1.2 million farmworkers in California will not be rounded up and deported.
She also praised a region where we see such productive agriculture and said that, if elected, Were going get to work on water.
But in a high school gymnasium in the heart of the drought-stricken Valley, Clinton once again steered clear of significant controversies surrounding water deliveries in the state.
Her appearance, with temperatures outside still hovering above 100 degrees, came several months after U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and congressional Republicans asked President Obama to increase the volume of water pumped from the Delta to the south. Federal regulators have said pumping restrictions are necessary to protect endangered species of Delta fish.

Trump denying there is a drought did no help his chances in CA. The votes he needs most, the Central Valley and every other rural area, know better.
Hillary doesn’t want to offend the environmental extremists who are a part of the Democratic Party base.
Central Valley farmers can go pound sand.
“Let them eat cake”
They put that in quotes but i don’t think he actually said those words.
The water shortage is completely created by government regulators and environmental extremists.
Trump needs to turn this back on the Democrats poor management of water resources over decades.
The clip I saw Trump said it is not true that the farm water shortage was due to drought.
It’s probably that dang Jim Thompson guy over-watering his lawn.
He’s a baaaad dude.
Prior to this last winter, Sacramento received ~20 inches of rain in 3.5 years.
What would you call that? A flood?
Yes he did.
Just like she avoided dealing with the crisis in Benghazi as it was happening.
Avoid it, hope it goes away, keep using your power to get more money and power.
No time for such trivialities.
Apparently you've never heard of the California Aqueduct system. The water collected from the Sierra Nevada Mountains is going into the Pacific to protect a bait fish rather than to the farmers.
Unless Mother Nature was elected to the CA legislature, this is a man-made drought.
Her Heinous is not well liked in these parts.
Heinous meaning odious, wicked, evil, atrocious, monstrous, abominable, detestable, contemptible, reprehensible, despicable, egregious, horrific, terrible, awful, abhorrent, loathsome, hideous, unspeakable, execrable.
this is a man-made drought.....Absolutely. How can you have a drought in a desert? God gave California X amount of rain every year to replenish desert plants and help the lizards have a yearly amount of water. Man moved in and upset the balance. You cannot have a drought unless all men move out.
Folsom Lake was at it's lowest recorded level, as were 90% of the reservoirs in CA.
While there was some water available, if they had pumped enough to keep the south valley in production sea water would have killed the delta.
Of course! They do let too much flow to sea. Of course! There is not enough storage. Those are the fault of the environmentalists.
But to suggest there was no drought, or water shortage, is abject ignorance.
The Central Valley is not a desert and has never been one.
Same can be said for the Sierras.
Average rainfall in Sacramento is 21 in per year and average Sierra snow pack above it, in Apr is about 12-16ft.
CA is a desert state and more or less its population exceeds the amount of water available for human, agricultural and industrial use.
There are two ways to obviate drought. Build dams and store water for use in dry years.
And built lots of desalination plants along the coast to extract fresh water via omosis from the ocean.
California's Drought Emergency Is Over, State Water Districts Say
The drought is over.
