House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday said he's voting for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. In an op-ed for the Janesville Gazette of Janesville, Wisconsin, Ryan -- who sparked a political firestorm last month when he told CNN's Jake Tapper he was "just not ready" to back his party's nominee -- says he is now convinced Trump will advance the Republican agenda.
"I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people's lives. That's why I'll be voting for him this fall," Ryan wrote. He added, "It's no secret that he and I have our differences. I won't pretend otherwise. And when I feel the need to, I'll continue to speak my mind. But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement."
Since Ryan's announcement early last month that he wasn't yet ready to back Trump, the two have met and spoken by phone. A source close to Ryan told CNN the speaker made the decision earlier in the week, but declined to speak on the discussions between the two, saying the op-ed "speaks for itself."
"He didn't give Mr. Trump a heads up. This was always going to be the speaker's own decision on his own timeline," the source said. Republican congressional candidate and Trump.
"House Republicans will be inseparably tied to their toxic front-runner in November, case closed," said Meredith Kelly, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
News of his support for Trump broke just as the likely Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, began a foreign policy speech in San Diego in which she bashed Trump as a threat to national security.

BFD. But will Trump endorse Ryan. LOL
The DIMs are sooooo desperate...”toxic front runner”??? Is the DIM referring to the life-long criminal, hillary rodham?
It’s a ruse.
Took the weasel way too long. Lyin’ Ryan needs to go.
A little late, but not too late — it’s before the convention.
Ryan must have felt the heat — but good that he came to his senses.
“House Republicans will be inseparably tied to their toxic front-runner in November, case closed,” said Meredith Kelly, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Of the two candidates, Trump’s the one who is “toxic”?
What a joke.
OK, bout time.
I hope Willard Romney won’t spank him.
Then again, Bain got its bail out for Puerto Rico.
God, I hated that.
I hope PRESIDENT TRUMP CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT!
The “Art of the Deal”.
Love that dump truck.
Guess Ryan is having to face reality.
Trump is always talking about all the lousy deals our leaders are making. Ryan knows Trump means him as well as obama. He’ll get rid of ryno Ryan at the time and place of his choosing.
Too late, Pauly.
You already showed yourself for what you are.
Yawn.
I agree. Before or after GOP convention makes a big difference.
Pfft! I hope he gets Cantored at election time.
The timing of the release was a nice touch; steal a bit of the news cycle from Clinton’s speech. I think this tells us that Ryan is already willing to help Team Trump. The more people see Ryan working with Trump, the better. Trump has accomplished quite a bit since the Indiana primary.
When you have them by their balls, their hearts and minds will follow...
