Not at my kids school - honors ceremony was this morning - took off time this morning to attend.

Lots of applause for those who worked hard.

Really?

I was National Honor Society...I didn’t know there was regalia for me to wear.

It has something to do with minorities.

I did not get a regalia too but that was back in the mid 80s.

My son graduated college a couple of weeks back. He had all these tassels and pjs and crap on the sleeves. I asked him what it was all for. His answer? “f*€k if I know.”

lol. Hey me too. This NHS is foreign to me. Some of my friends were on it. I wasn’t ever jealous of it. Wasn’t much of a big deal back in 1987.

My son is in the C’s-get-degrees category. His sister was an Honors student and he asked to borrow her tassles for his graduation.

She was pissed.

The failing Black seniors in Mobile County (Alabama) schools were allowed to walk across the stage with qualified graduates and receive a Certificate Of Attendance instead of a diploma at the end of the year graduation ceremonies.

Wouldn’t want to make the slugs that sat on their rears all year feel bad. You can bet the leadership of the school was never in NHS and was probably jealous of those that were.

Looked it up - appears to be a long wide ribbon (yellow) that drapes over the shoulders. There also appears to be a small medal and a tassel to replace the one on the mortar board.

It probably varies. Back when I was a youngster, we got gold cords that we wore over our shoulders. These days, most chapters offer either gold cords or a collar or stole worn over the graduation gown.

Can’t have those snowflakes be emotionally hurt and then go out and shoot a bunch of people. It’s kinda like gun control.

Same here. We were recognized at an assembly and as a group we had a picture in the year book. That was it, no really big deal. We had a couple National Merit Scholarship winners and they were recognized at an assembly too, but no graduation insignia.

Don't mean to disparage the wearing of honors stoles, but my daughter just graduated college with a BS in Aerospace magna cum laude with honors and for the two she had a couple special cords to wear around her neck, over her robe and notations on her diploma ... no stole like the Masters and PhD graduates.

Did this practice begin around the same time schools started holding graduation ceremonies for elementary and middle school kids, and teams began awarding participation trophies? That might put it into perspective.
