National Review: Working-Class Nationalists Crush Conservative Policy Wonks
Breitbart.com ^ | May 31, 2016 | Breitbart News And John O'Sullivan

I seem to have been writing articles about conservatism all my life. Not quite, but almost. The first such article for which I was paid appeared in print in 1969 in the Swinton Journal (which, not at all coincidentally, was the first magazine I ever edited.) The article had the uninviting title “The Direction of Conservatism,” and init I advocated educational vouchers, road pricing, flexible exchange rates, and many other good things from the handbook of classical liberalism.

National Review has been irrelevant since Wm. F. Buckley retired.

The Trump phenomenon is nationalistic: those American citizens who have seen their jobs taken by H1Bs and illegals, who have to deal with the high crime rates of illegal, who are tired of our young men going out to "nation build" in Third World hell-holes -- they have had enough.

Increasing numbers see BOTH the Dems and the Republican establishment as being for the Oligarchy, and we're tired of it.

We swallowed our vomit the last 8 years (at least) and voted for their lame presidential and congressional candidates.
Now we find that the same “conservative” wonks who thought Obama was swell think Trump is bad.
Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over-and-over, and expecting different results.
Go Trump.

I believe Trump is going to cause a realignment of the electorate, and I think this is a good and long overdue thing. As Trump has suggested, the people who work and pay taxes will make up one party and the oligarchs, political class and the beneficiaries of the welfare state will comprise the other party. It’s pretty easy to see when you look at who is attending Trump rallies and who is stomping their feet about Trump as the nominee.

Yes. Also the editor of NR up to 1997.... He’s a Brit and some kind of ‘traditional’ conservative (establishment?). We have a few of those in our government too.....they infested the Bush Administration and ushered in Obama, IMO.

What’s left of ‘traditional’ conservatism in our government, those ‘establishment’ Republicans aren’t worth the powder, frankly. They are there for THEMSELVES and THEIR OWN POWER.

“Admittedly, retirees receive far more in Social Security payments than their accumulated contributions could justify in purely investment terms.”

Long ago, I heard an economist analyze that concept. He explained that if the Social Security contributions, over the years, had been invested and not spent by the politicians, the amount received by each recipient would be much greater. That thinking is behind having personal accounts. It would have still worked for general accounts.

Well gosh, if he worked for Thatcher, I guess he must know what is best for America. So do we bow to this Brit when we meet him or read his fatwa?
How does it work?

Just sayin...
