When your doctor asks you if you own a gun

There have been laws passed on this subject in Florida, always to the great consternation of liberals and gun control advocates, but it remains an open question in much of the country. Should your doctor be asking you during the course of a routine check-up whether or not you or any family members have a gun in your house? And what if they do just come out and ask? Ben Guarino at the Washington Post brings us some information about a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine which suggests that nothing should hold doctors back from inquiring. You know… just for your own good.

Corollary: Best not to ask. You know...just for your own good. Of course that would be "threatening" language in some places. Amazingly, not every doctor out there graduated at the top of the class. Hey doc, you still have those porn sites bookmarked?

Tell him “Yes!”, rattle off a long list of full-auto military weapons, and then when completing your forms, slip him the home address of your local Democrat Party committeeman.

A doctor asked me that very question about a year ago...I answered, “That isn’t any of your business...”

He answered back, “Good answer...”

Nothing more was ever said about it....

Hahahahahaha My doc likes to hunt too. We’re always discussing fishing or hunting when I have my checkups.....or politics. He’s a Trump supporter too! Excellent doc and really good guy.

If your doctor asks, it’s time to find another doctor.

I’ve been going to the same doctor for 30 years. He knows better than to ask.

“Nope. Doc, I lost all my guns in a boating accident.”

(I couldn’t stop myself. I’m ashamed.)

Three possible answers, and three responses from our ‘friendly’ government types:

1) “No, I do not own a gun” It ends there, unless they are able (and bother) to cross-check with some other database.

2) “Yes, but I keep it locked up (so kids won’t get to it)”. Pretty good answer...they won’t come for you until they’ve disarmed (and/or jailed) the people in the next group.

3) “NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!” This is what they’re looking for. OBVIOUSLY you own guns - the question is whether you’re another Ted Bundy, ready to kill dozens of feds. Best bet for government type - when the time comes, move in quickly with large numbers, and then disarm and jail.

So you FReepers pick your answer...

Happens every year at the VA. They will persist until you answer yes or no. They wont take “none of your business” as an answer. I have tried. I just say “no” and move on in the interview.

They have no right to ask. This shows how much control the federal government has over doctors. Shows that the federal government has become what the left has always wanted: an overpowering, overreaching, totalitarian dictatorship.

I’ve noticed doctors are generally embarrassed to ask these kind of questions.

If my doctor were to ask about guns I would stand up,say “Doctor, this relationship is over,” and walk out the door. I would not return. I can do that even though I would be hard put to find another because I have for 25 years pretty much taken care of my own arthritis, cholesteral, prostate, tendonitis, et cetera. I go to a doctor once a year just because it helps me remain in the good graces of my Medicare insurance company. I am basically healthy other than the crochets of old age and by controlling my diet and judicious study and use of supplements, I keep myself in pretty good shape and virus free. All those supps, though, make it much less likely that the doc will ask about guns. He has me pegged as a health food nut which I promote for his cogitatioin and such are not expected to have or like guns. I am not a health food nut but I don’t eat crap either.

If he wants to have a real long talk about socialism and the 200 million people it killed in 20th century, he can go ahead and ask me.
