The Army's active force has shrunk to its lowest level since before World War II, Army Times reported Saturday. According to the military's headcount by the Defense Manpower Data Center, nearly 2,600 soldiers left active duty in March without being replaced, the news outlet reports, adding that during the past year, the size of the active forced has been reduced by 16,548 soldiers.
At the end of March, there were 479,172 active-duty soldiers 154 fewer than when the Army halted its post-Cold War drawdown in 1999, the smallest force since the 1940 count of 269,023 soldiers, Army Times reports.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
How appropriate. Since Obama and Kerry and Hillary may give us WWIV.
OTOH, civilian gun ownership is probably at an all-time high.
And that’s a good thing.
FUNDAMENTAL transformation.
Wait until he crashes the economy.
“How appropriate. Since Obama and Kerry and Hillary may give us WWIV.”
They’re doing their best to get us there, and it will make the other WW’s pale in comparison.
I’m not joking.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Morale, unit cohesion, equipment problems, and espirt de corp are all going south.
I served under Ford/Carter, so I know how bad it can get.
5.56mm
Combined with multiple deployments for over a decade now.
Once Obama completes his “Fundamental Transformation” the only war the military will be structured to fight is the democrats’ war against American values,
We knew from the beginning of Obama’s presidency that he would decimate our military. So where was Congress when dozens of competent generals were fired and replaced by Leftist yes-men? Where are all the men and women who took an oath to defend the Constitution from attack by “all enemies, both foreign and domestic?” Obama has done more damage to our military strength than all our enemies have, and there is not a peep from the cowards whose duty it is to protect this country.
I think it’s part of Obama’s psyche.
He’s more than just a pathological liar.
He’s the guy driving the bus off the cliff. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Oh, he may make some gaffes along the way, but this is all by design and seizing opportunities. He’s the guy steering the ship into the iceberg by all he can do. Death by 1,000 cuts and that sort of thing.
“I served under Ford/Carter, so I know how bad it can get.”
Must have been horrendous at that time post-Vietnam. A hollowed out force.
[and there is not a peep from the cowards whose duty it is to protect this country.]
Yes, they’re too busy working on their offshore accounts and backup homes in foreign lands.
Over the past number of years, months, days, hours, minutes, seconds of this Obama administration I’ve been asked my opinion by young men about joining various of the military branches. I have consistently told them to wait, and see what the leadership looks like after Obama as today they would be joining a military under the command of a man who actually hates that which is his highest responsibility.
That hatred of the military is all to apparent in how he manages his responsibility.
We don’t need a big army. 400 000 is plenty to guard the wall on the Southern border.
We DO need a big Navy and Marine Corps - much bigger than we have now.
And just like 1940, tyrants are rumbling around the world while the world cop in on break. But this time it is a direct result of Obama’s hatred of all things in uniform, especially our military. And his three and four star officers, Service Secretaries and Ash Carter all all directly to blame. Career over country, especially for the officers. Not only is the military so small, it is a rotted left wing laboratory of perversion and debauchery because of Obama’s policies.
Well one would hope so.
