Pregnant Connecticut Teen Who Tested Positive for Zika Virus Says She Will Keep Her Baby

A pregnant Connecticut teen who tested positive for the Zika virus has decided to carry her baby to full term despite the risks of birth defects.

"I'm not happy that my baby is going to be born with Zika but God has given me a miracle," Sara Mujica tells PEOPLE.

The 17-year-old from Danbury, Connecticut, says that doctors told her she would never be able to conceive because she had meningitis at age 15.

"Doctors said that I would never get pregnant so this is a big miracle for me," she says.

Mujica and her fiancé, Victor Cruz, 19, learned they were pregnant on March 14 – just four days after she started exhibiting symptoms of the Zika virus, which has been linked to severe birth defects, including microcephaly.

The teen believes she contracted the virus while visiting her fiancé in Choloma, Honduras, where he currently lives.

...snip...

"I mean it's a hard choice, I don't know exactly how I'm going to bring up a child with a disability," she says. "But I am Catholic and I believe that I must raise the child that God gave me."

...snip...

She's also working to secure a visa so that her fiancé can come back with her. "He's helping me with anything and everything possible and I'm going to really feel alone without him," she says.

Mujica and her fiancé have set up a GoFundMe to help support their baby.

An unmarried, probably unemployed 17 year old, so worried about conceiving? Hmmmm.

Is she healthy? Then her baby will probably be fine. Most of the birth defects (if not all) were from inbreeding, poverty, dengue, and similar factors, not Zika.

“But I am Catholic and I believe that I must raise the child that God gave me.”

Well, I’m glad she is choosing to not murder the baby, but being Catholic she should have avoided fornication in the first place. Oh, well, at least she’s not murdering the kid.

Teen from Honduras, not Connecticut. I’d fund for her to go back and stay. Don’t want her, or her offspring’s ongoing bills on my tab.

Another Democrat voter on the way, funded (probably) by Republican voters.

(God bless her and her child in any event)

On that note, we should probably give her 19-year old Honduran fiancé a visa so he can come over and financially support their child.

I'm sure he's up for that.

There is absolutely no reason to think that her baby will be unhealthy or disabled if she is getting good prenatal care.

For all of the hype, I do not think that there is any definitive evidence linking Zika to birth defects.

I’m glad she has not allowed the hype to influence her to kill the baby. Although I question why this is news.

Just my hard core view, but I believe the MSM loves to hype diseases to push Obamacare and more govt intervention in our lives.

I'm sure she's getting the best prenatal care that money can buy --in Honduras.

She's raising money to return back here.

She knows if the baby requires lifelong medical care that the federal government will see to it that taxpayers pick up the tab.

The average person loses his/her virginity by 17 years of age. Realistically speaking, there must be a lot of Catholics in that 50% of non-virgin 17 year olds.

I'm glad she didn't decide to kill the baby, as well. Unfortunately, a lot of Catholic girls hear the message that they shouldn't use birth control, and have abortions since they think the issue is about hiding the fact that they aren't virgins, and not about the fact that a human life is involved.

She's currently over there. She has a return ticket to the U.S. for July 24th. She's trying to raise money to come back sooner so she can get better prenatal care.

Is she a citizen? Maybe we can send her down there.

Right now, I am feeling the Bern of your statement. You’re probably right. As far as this girl goes, her career as a federally funded baby maker is just getting started.

Yes my last visits to the local maternity hospital when my daughter had a baby 2 yrs ago indicated that:

1) most births are future Democrat voters
2) most births are being funded by current Republican voters

(part 2 was verified by my neighbor who is a major domo at the hospital)

I was referring to after her inevitable July 24th return to deliver her anchor baby. If I could pay to prevent that I would.

Someday, if they haven’t started yet, they put stuff in the “vaccines” they give us. they have so many reasons for what they do, none of it good. Obama is just the latest, and the worst, but they all are sociopaths.

If this little promiscuous Honduran here legally?

Why the hell didn’t she stay in Honduras with her ‘boy’ friend? That’s where the diseased mosquito bit her on her adulterous ass.
