For starters, Newt’s atrocious personal life (which includes things like giving one of his ex-wives divorce papers while she was in the hospital) would be a major distraction.
And then there’s the issue of how Newt completely screwed up the Clinton impeachment - in no small part due to his own lack of self-control.

That's probably the worst possible reason to pick a candidate. I despise Republicans who play the affirmative action race/gender card, for one thing, it never works because the sort of people this appeals to are the ones who vote Democrat anyway.

Christie's approval rating in NJ is about half the percentage of registered republicans in the state. He couldn't get elected dog catcher and would be a yuge drag on Trump. Trump is better off in NJ without fat boy.
Newt would fit Trump’s described VP as someone who can get things through Congress. But he’ll be almost 80 by the end of the term, plus I think he has too many negatives. I think Trump needs to pick an apprentice. Didn’t like anyone listed so I chose other.
Agree Kasich really did well in the R primary in Ohio and won the last gov election by THIRTY points. Putting him on the ticket probably locks in Ohio.
Then you carpet bomb Florida and Virginia in the campaign and you’re good to win.

Trump is rich, but not rich enough to defeat Hillary in the general election without donor money. Small donors like us could make up some of the difference, but in the end he’ll need access to Republican PACs, which means convincing the GOP establishment that no matter how much they hate him, they’re better off with him than with Hillary. Probably the only way to do that is to pick an establishment running mate, as Reagan did with Bush in 1980. Kasich would be the least objectionable choice among establishment candidates (he’s more the bumbling loser type than an outright jerk like Rubio or Bush), and as a bonus Trump gets Ohio.
