Senate approves gun seizures in violent domestic breakups (Connecticut)

Accused domestic abusers would have to surrender firearms within 24 hours under legislation that won final approval in the Senate on Monday afternoon and now heads to the governor for his expected signature.

The bill was approved 23-13 after a two-and-three-quarter hour debate, in which Republicans failed in three attempts to amend it. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who proposed the legislation, indicated right after the vote that he supports the bill, which would require alleged domestic abusers — in most cases, men — to immediately give up their guns and ammunition if their partners seek restraining orders.

The goal is to protect women from the increased lethality at a critical point in a relationship: when they are trying to leave their abusers. About 14 domestic homicides occur annually in Connecticut, half of which are caused by guns.

The effect this will have is to cause more shootings when some people choose to “smoke ‘em while they got ‘em”

So now “due process” is simply an accusation.

unconstitutional (no matter how PC and nice it may sound at first blush, our Constitution is not a PC document, indeed it is a revolutionary document in world history... thankfully so!)

besides, do they really expect many people to comply with a firearms confiscation “law”? Maybe the senators should go out and try to actually implement their fake “law”....and see what kind of receptions they get....

I’ve heard that it’s hard to get your guns back once the police take them. I’ve also heard that the guns come back damaged as if on purpose. I hope this goes to a higher court.

These same people approve of Obama, Hillary and Kerry giving not selling assault weapons, grenade launchers, rockets and explosives to known terrorists. What a country

Any excuse to confiscate guns will do. I noticed a lot of anti-gun stories on the MSN news page today. The gun-grabbers must have gotten orders to attack our rights.

You are precisely correct, DBrow.
There is nothing to stop a dishonest person from saying to police, "...He/she pointed a gun at me. It was silver, that's all I know..."

Bingo, that is all that is needed to then deprive someone of their rights without even examining to see if the OTHER partner is proactively disarming his/her partner to facilitate nefarious plans of their own.

is domestic abuse a federal crime? therefore they are required to surrender their guns and ban from buying a gun

interesting, they should be addressing same sex couples who are well know for stabbing their lover during a dispute then refuse to press charges on their spouse

How does a gun cause a homicide?

Deeper than that- He has a lot of guns and I’m afraid he’ll HURT me! is all it takes.

Lawyer: You said he owns a gun?

Wife: Yes, several, some worth over a thousand dollars.

Lawyer: OK we’ll file a restraining order, it will put pressure on him that may make him do something stupid, to our advantage.

Just another blow against marriage. I can see more and more men going their own way and saying that the cons of marriage far outweigh the pros of it.
