Gee, I wonder how many black families were disrupted by the great Route 66 coming to an end due to the new interstate highways? Virtually none, but many thousands of white owned businesses were wiped out entirely and predominately white towns died out as well.

The housing was substandard, the land was cheap, and removing the residents to shiny new public housing was all the rage. It’s revisionist history to look back and claim that these areas were targeted out of some negative motivation toward black people, it was viewed as an objective good at the time. Urban renewal.
What a DUMB ASS; the highways back in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s were routed for the most direct, least resistance, cost effective routes possible.
Back then they were built for military infrastructure, and ease of moving material and equipment intrastate and interstate.
The engineers back then didn’t sit down and ask themselves “how can we screw a group of people”, they sat down and said “how can we move a tank, truck, or toops fast and efficiently from here to there”.
Obviously our Transportation Secretary has a liberal, BLM, Gibsmedat, third grade education.
