Well that and the govt getting young african-Americans hooked on crack and handing out guns and ammo to kids as young as 10 in chicago. Srsly? Facepalm!

I-696 in Detroit goes right through a Jewish neighborhood. Know what they did? They dealt with it.

I-95 in Baltimore was scheduled to go through a black neighborhood. The neighbors made a good enough case not to that it was rerouted.

When you have an interstate system like ours, it’s bound to go through good and bad areas. It’s also bound to have built up new areas based on highway proximity. I daresay more people have been helped by the highway than hurt.

Being a black man, I could write an entire article about how this premise is WRONG. But its easier to say that over 95% of the interstate system was built on and through white communities, and on land purchased from white people, mostly via eminent domain.

Some communities and states made ordinances to make the highway system work for them. Others choose to use the highway system to exploit those who would dare exit into their communities and/or use it as a reason for their community failures.

This is one subject that is right in my wheelhouse. These sames lies were preached to me during my childhood. I rejected them then, as well as today. I encourage everyone to do the same.

The Think Progress article cited the efforts by the city of St. Louis in the early 1980s to expand the runway network for Lambert International Airport and claimed officials used “arm-twisting” to buy out the middle class black homeowners that resided in Kinloch, Mo., where the new roads were constructed.

The article said the population of that town dropped from 4,000 to less than 300.


Race had nothing to do with it; it was being next to an airpot. The middle class white homeowners to the west of the airport in Bridgeton, MO, had the same thing happen to them between 1995 and 2005. And it wasn’t just arm-twisting. The airport took them to court to force them out. As a result, the population of Bridgeton has dropped from 17,800 to 11,800.

If you look at a map of Northern state parkway on Long Island you will see it takes an abrupt chicane in Westbury. Robert mosses found the land too expensive the opposition to great and he curved the roadway to avoid the neighborhood. Ironically Southern state divided the driveway of a mansion bethpage.

Proof’s in the pudding...Eisenhower got the idea from the Nazis. Black people need to boycott the interstate highway system, preferably before rush hour this morning.
