Senator John McCain will not attend the GOP’s convention this summer. Instead he plans to use the time to campaign for reelection. Politico reports:
I have to campaign for reelection, and I have always done that when Im up, McCain said. We have a late primary in Arizona.
Though the GOP convention is scheduled for July 18-21, the Arizona lawmaker also faces an Aug. 30 primary against state Sen. Kelli Ward and business owner Alex Meluskey.
McCain’s real problem is his likely Democratic opponent Ann Kirkpatrick. Though polling is sparse, the RCP average suggests the head-to-head match-up is currently a dead heat.
The GOP is facing a tough map in 2016. It needs to defend 24 seats while Democrats only need to defend ten. In order to win the majority, Democrats only need to flip 4 seats if Clinton wins the White House or five if a GOP candidate wins. CNN reports the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is planning to spend nearly $40 million on adds in a few key races to sway the outcome:
According to a source with knowledge of the ad buy, the DSCC is reserving $10 million in air time to target the state’s open Senate seat in Florida, which Sen. Marco Rubio is vacating. The campaign committee is dropping another $10 million in Ohio, in a battle where former Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland is locked in a tight contest with GOP Sen. Rob Portman.
The group plans to bolster the candidacy of Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire, with $8 million in the race to unseat GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte. And the DSCC plans to drop another $5 million to defend two seats — Colorado, where Sen. Michael Bennet is up for re-election, and $4 million in the race for the Nevada seat being vacated by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
Kelly Ayotte, who is on the DSCC’s list of targeted seats has also stated she will not attend the GOP convention in order to focus on her campaign.
C’mon Arizona...Put McCain into ‘retirement”.....
He’s gonna have to be out campaigning, pretending he’s not as crazy as a sh!thouse rat, never had anything to do with amnesty or any of that crap.
And sadly, these idiots in Arizona will once again elect this A-hole! Go figure!
Let’s hope Sarah Palin is invited to represent the 2008 ticket
Then she’ll be too busy to have to campaign for McQueeg
Can Arizonians please send this guy to a retirement home?
No one in the Senate has betrayed the citizens more than McCain.
CANTORIZE YOUR WEASEL, ARIZONA !
Sadly the fair folk of Arizona will re-elect this buffoon yet once again. You cannot dismiss royalty.
He need not waste his time, he has a lifetime gig with AZ voters....
John McCain...What to say...We honor your military service to a grateful nation, but it is time to just fade away, sir.
I’m not so sure about him winning this time.
It’d be a shock if they sent him home. For the last two years....any interview that he’s given....has been lame.
with many of the establishment RINO politicians now saying they aren’t going to attend the Republican convention lends credence to anyone who is suspicious that something is planned that will take out Mr. Trump and a lot of other people with him. The ruling elite have demonstrated more than once that they have no bounds when it comes to getting what they want and Mr. Trump is clearly a major threat to all of them.
Why would McCain want to skip the Convention? Hell, when GOPe hands us Romney as nominee for Pres. maybe he will name McCain as his VP choice? If we’re gonna lose? Lose big...
This should be a campaign issue in the primary. McCain is so disloyal to the Republican Party that he isn’t even going to the convention. As usual, it’s all about him.
[something is planned that will take out Mr. Trump and a lot of other people with him]
PRAY for their protection.
We declare in the name of JESUS CHRIST that no weapon formed against you will prosper.
I suppose getting booed off the stage wouldn’t look good for his reelection chances.
We have the momentum. Voters in Ryan's district and McCain's state of Arizona...rally others. Get out and toss these SOB’s. We need your help to keep the momentum going.
The establishment republican good ol boy club must be dismantled.
Juan should be spending his time on the chain-gang building the southern border wall/fence.
