Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday killed seven police officers who were guarding people conducting a polio drive in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi.

Eight attackers on four motorcycles and armed with pistols targeted two teams in different neighborhoods of the Orangi area of Karachi, police officials said, adding that the shootings happened within minutes of each other.

The police officers were deployed to protect the people who were administering polio vaccination through a door-to-door campaign, government officials said

The police returned fire or the death toll may have been higher, said police spokesman Qamar Zaib Satti.

“These brave policemen died protecting the polio teams,” said Maj. Gen. Bilal Akbar, director general of Sindh Rangers, a paramilitary force. “Their sacrifice will not be in vain.”

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks on Wednesday. The polio vaccination drive in Karachi was suspended after the shootings, local government officials said.

"Their sacrifice will not be in vain."

"The polio vaccination drive in Karachi was suspended after the shootings..."

Well, it seems like it was "in vain" if the vax campaign has been suspended.

These were Paki Al Qaeda (or perhaps even ISIS), who have a long history of attacking vaccination teams.

AppyPappy :" These people are living in the Dark Ages "

..and they choose to stay in the Dark Ages
They are also 'ethnocentric' and think that their way of living is just perfect.
That is why they refuse to culturally and spiritually assimilate into those countries they have chosen refuge.
They demand that we accommodate their lifestyle , rather than change their lifestyle.
The refugees are a cultural, economic and spiritual INVASION FORCE , initiated by our own feckless leaders.
